Ok I don't know how much a brand new 5 series costs, but I am guessing ~60K+. How much does a person need to be making in order to buy your college bound kid that kind of a car?

i think the the new M5 v10s are more around 70k-80k, but i could be wrong about that. Maybe they are leasing it for their kid, >$500/month still, but it wouldnt be the whole lump sum.

yes u can buy it when u make 60k/year, but not really practical when a car cost what u earn in an enitre year, especially if its not even for yourself.

Don't push your luck, kid.

Well dude my dad wants to buy me a 1998 BMW M3. But I don't want an old car, I want a brand new one. I guess I could convince him to buy me the latest EVO or WRX Sti, but a 2004 BMW 5 series is what I really want.

Edit: Ok I am just kidding. I just saw some kids driving around in fancy cars, like 5 series and Merc E430 (?? don't know), and was just wondering how much their parents make.

this is depressing. :( i'm going to sleep :moon:... my dad wouldn't buy me jack squat and buys himself a new car. so now i'm starving just to save money for my own car... since the hand me down is already dying on the freeway... has no AC... definitely on its last legs. a 98 m3 would be a godsend for me. oh well... whinings over.

You cannot tell how rich people are by the possessions that they have. Some live well below their means, and some well above.

Parents should not buy their kids cars...they should have to save up for them and work hard, that teaches properly lessons.

An an M3 or M5.....puh....someone is clearly spoilt...ah well many young kids with that card will run it into something anyhoo....or it'll get nicked.

But if he wants to get you a M3 98 model....just go for it...lovelly machine...stop being so damn picky.

Very true. One person could afford an M5 on $60k whereas another may be drowning when he makes $150k simply because the former uses his money better, has savings, etc. and the latter is already up to his ass in debt and truly cannot afford anything else.

To base one's income on their looks you'd think a lot of the poor people in the projects in Bham were loaded because they drive around cadillacs, and yet they go home to a piece of crap house worth $35k. Obviously they don't appreciate the concept of looks vs. reality (unless they honestly like living in a dump and having a nice car, which is also possible).

Why shouldn't they buy their kids a car if they can afford it? My parents bought me a car for college and I still work hard, have a job and manage my money...

More like what you make in two years when you consider taxes.

Any brand new M5 or M3 will cost whoevers paying insurance an arm and a leg for Im assuming an 18-19 driver.

Why not just get a 3series? A 5 series is pushing it.

Thats the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard.

My sister is in medical school, and she hardly even has time to sleep..using your retarded logic, she should work 20+ hours a week so she can afford a car and risk her (likely lucrative) future so she can be taught a lesson to "work hard"??

I hate when people who were unfortunate themselves try pushing it onto other people. Maybe for the people who don't go to college or do something like 'theater' your logic may go, but some people have to put 100% into studying to even remain at a competitive level.

If you already own your own home, and all you have to pay each month is utilities, food, etc, I see it being pretty feasible for someone making 50k-60k to afford a 50-100k car.... chances are since they own their own home, though, that they wont blow that much of their income on a car.

In what kind of fantasy land can someone making $60k/year afford a $75k car? (EDIT: Sorry I was looking at an M5 cost here due to the second post) Maybe if you live somewhere where the cost of living is very low, but certainly not around here. $100k/year is hardly the lap of luxury, let me tell you.

FYI: There are very few homes here under $300k and 2 bedroom condos will run you $200k+

Yeah, It really depends on where you live. High population citys are the worst.
