120hp (97 Cavalier - 2.2L i4)
170hp (87 Caprice - 5.0L v8)

I voted for the lower rating as gas is high right now. Hence, I drive the Cavalier.

What can I say, new(er) cars are for suckers. :p

Very few takers on the torque argument? Seriously? Having felt torque, I much prefer it over some arbitrary made up number...

Apparently, you don't understand the measurements you're referring to.
Torque is a measurement of an engines power, how much twist it has at the crank. Horsepower measures how much work that engine will do. Horsepower is torque x rpm's / 5252. Huge torque is worthless without rpm's, it's the combination that makes things happen.

Enough hp to do what we need......but more than enough torque to pull our trailers, which is the more important metric, at least for our situation.

wrong.

1) torque is a moment, a twisting force. torque does work. power is a rate of work (energy/time)

2) horsepower measures how much work an engine does per unit time. that's why power has the units of energy/time

3) huge torque without RPM's is useless if you're trying to go fast, yes, but if you're trying to move big things...have fun using a motorcycle engine to pull a stump, tow a boat, or a ton of cargo.

200/220 at the crank, 180/200 at the wheels

bike is 75/50 and 65/45 i think?

90% of the cars on this forum have close torque and ho numbers. The exceptins are desiel trucks or high reving cars like the S2000 or Ferrari. Plus someone can start another poll if they wish. I know my car would still be 500+.

well that impossible to know exactly unless you've had the engine out of your car and put on an engine dyno. but being that i made 441rwhp on a Dyno-com roller dyno (which reads essentially the same as a Dynojet), and given the modifications to my drivetrain (i expect an estimated ~12% drivetrain loss, even though drivetrain loss can't really be summed up as a single percentage in the real world), that puts me right at the 500HP mark.

oh yeah, and since someone mentioned the importance of the power-to-weight ratio, my car weighs in around 3,300-lbs. so my power:weight is 0.15hp/lb. alternatively, my weight:power is 6.59-lbs/hp.

220 which is an upgrade from the 100 my last car had. I don't really need a lot of horsepower, don't even see the point. Any mods I do will be concerning the look of the car.
