How much HD space do i need?

I'm planning on buildin a new computer on a tight budget. I was wondering how much hard drive space you really need. I play games, but I don't download MP3's or videos. I also do a lot of graphics work, and I'm looking into getting into DV editing. Tight budget, remeber. Will 20 GB be enough? Or 40? 60? what do you guys think

HD space is a tough thing to ponder. Four or five games can easily burn 2 or 3 gigs of space. I'd say a Maxtor DM+60 7200rpm 40GB drive will be just dandy for you.

Right now there is little price differnce between the 20gb and 40gb...I would go 40gb...

DV editing takes a good amount of space...

Get IBM 60gxp 40gb 7200rpm at newegg for 103 + 8.00 for s&h. Take that drive and partition it into (2) 20gb drives and leave the 2nd drive as a dedicated space for the dv editing. You will want to defrag and reformat that drive regularly for best dv results.

Just my two cents...

im an agreeance with these guys. the price difference between the 20 and 40 is very small. if you get the 20 you will be mad down the road that you didn't get the bigger drive. just my thoughts.

Thanks guys, I think I will get that 40 gigger... I still don't have a camera or the right kind of software to do decent DV editing though so that's going to have to wait for a while... I'll upgrade later to a bigger drive for that when I get more money.

Again, your help is appreciated.

40GB if your doing DV editing I would say. That stuff takes up a lot of room. 20GB is suffecient for most people but people just always want more 🙂. Hehe.

like everybody said, 40 gig is fine. I think it's better to make 2 partitions, 30 gig and 10 gig on it. the 10 gig one is for data....
