I think all the current OLED's ARE 4k....but good luck with the wait for them to become affordable. It's not going to be this decade.

Well, before they become affordable they have to release an actual production model (and no, I don't count that joke OLED "prototype" Sony released years ago). 🙂 There is a lot of talk at CES about OLED, but just like 2013 and 2012, I haven't seen an actual production model. Definitely no talk about MSRP, which leads me to believe the models they are showing off are just demo units. Sucks, but I'm hoping OLED will materialize soon. And by "soon," I mean sometime in 2014. Once they have one in the stores, we can then talk about affordable models. 🙂

I'm good though. I have no problems waiting until this mess gets sorted out (HDMI 2.0, 4K, 8K, 4k/8K media, OLED). It's a huge mess out there now. Definitely wouldn't recommend jumping in now if you have a decent setup. On the other hand, it's a perfect time to start saving for the "real deal" in a few years. 😉

LCD will never be as good as plasma. for small devices, LCD has been great. For TV's, LCD has remained inferior to CRT and plasma until the very end. The very best consumer LCD money can buy still isn't as good of a TV as a mid-ranged Panasonic plasma. Just wait for OLED

The problem is CRT is dead and plasma will be and there is no consumer oled panels. Someone who needs a new TV in the mean time will have little or no choice. Not everyone is elitist about it and some people won't sit on a tv with issues out of spite. They will go buy a new tv.

im pretty sure we are supposed to see 1080p OLEDs this year, however i could be wrong

With OLED around the corner, I certainly wouldn't expect LCD's to improve any at this point. Plasma was the only technology even pushing any sort of improvement in PQ from LCD's.

You should check out the CES 2014 videos and articles being posted. I believe a lot of the 2014 Vizio led/lcd are going to be Full Array Led Backlight. And a very aggressive price point for the 4k P series. Still waiting for final confirmation

Just Panny shut down plasma production. LG and Samsung still sell plasma. Not as good an Pannys, but better than LCDs.

Well sure, those people are the reason flat TVs sell and plasmas are dead. Let them have their junk, anyone who cares about picture quality needs to hoard a Panny while they can.

I don't understand the whole "thin" thing. I don't know anyone who hangs their main tv on the wall. They all put them on stands (as do we) so it really doesn't matter if they are 1/2" thick or not. I get that some do hang them, but just doesn't seem like EVERYONE is wanting micro thin tv's and if they are putting them on a 2 foot deep stand sitting a half foot away from the wall, then it's pointless anyway.

I want a 1.5" TV. I don't like it taking up very much room. Now I will set it on my 18" deep TV stand. /sarcasm

I think it's pretty well too late to get one at a decent price, at least from Amazon. Luckily I have an ST30 and an ST60 to last me a few years.
