Depends on how fast you're going.
Plus, the belt that drives the compressor usually resists change, so if you're in city traffic, stopping, speeding up a lot, it will use a lot more gas then having your window down. If you're going 65 on the freeway, maybe a little bit more.
If you're going 100mph, maybe less, depending on your car engine's general capabilities and wind resistance.

Very little. Driving down to VA and back in July I ran the AC a lot. For the spots that I didn't run it I averaged about 32mpg, in the spots I ran it I averaged about 30.5mpg. All highway driving, but here at home I've tested it with more stop and go driving, and the difference is about the same, 1-2mpg lower with it on.

if you're going 100mph, i don't think you really give a rat's ass about mpg 🙂

I drive it everyday. Going 100 I get about 27 Mpg. going 80 I get about 28, going 70 I get about 28.5. This is on a 150 mile commute everyday. With the AC on.
Doesn't hurt mileage that much for me. All depends on the car though. 4 cylinders are going to drink it at that speed.

What difference does it make? If it's too hot put the A/C on. My comfort is worth more than $1.00 worth of gasoline.

i have noticed in my vehicle, the AC actually brings my MPG down a lot 🙁 windows down makes it really good, 35mpg at best 😀 usually on average i get between 28-33 though with no windows down, nothing running except maybe the fan on its coolest setting. and now that weather is getting cooler, no point to using it.... 😀
