How much faster would a Haswell 6 core 12 thread be for my needs.

Yap 5 years this CPU is going strong ,,, @ 3.7Ghz until mobo died, no warranty,,,,,,, had to buy used P5k and its mesed up big time cant touch OC section except for multi and FSB ,, I dont even know what ram voltage it put it on.. anyhow. I use Sonar X2 which is why I want to get a 6 core. Each thread will be fast and powerful to handle as many real time synths and vsti dxi like literally 100 tracks all computer generation sound plus 100 plugins.


To give you idea right now on a project if I have 14 tracks playing in real time not bounced to wave,, plus Waves Mercury Plugins and other VSti and DXi and pus about 30 plugins and Im @ 85 to 90 percent CPU usage.

If I put a Haswell top of line 1k processor 4.8Ghz. How many tracks can I do if Q6 you do 14 traks and plugins its 90 percent,, what will a current GEN CPU allow me to do because Im working on big projects and I have to freeze the track,, make a wave file out of it,, so it relieves the CPU ,,,,

with a new cpu I can do 150 plugins and 50 tracks ? Is it going to give me that much more power

Haswell for LGA1150 that launches in march 2013 is quadcore max. Haswell-E/EP/EX is first due in late 2014.

I agree with Intel17,i ditched my q6600 back when the i7 900 series came out and that was a good upgrade,so of course a 3770k will be years ahead of the q6600.

The q6600 was my favorite chip of all time,a 3770k will be a fantastic upgrade.

Dropping a 3770k in this board to replace a locked i5 2500 in a few weeks myself,hate that lack of ocing function.

Why not just pick up a Core i7 3930K and motherboard and overclock it. If you need the cores/threads then it would be a better choice than the 3770k....Unless you have more time than money

Even a 2500k destroys a Q6600 so a 3770k or 3930k would be a major upgrade.

A 3770K is a better choice than a 3930k for current games. 3770K has faster cores and 4 cores is the sweet spot for current games. If you have programs that can benefit from more than 4 cores, then the 3930k is probably the better choice because it's almost as fast as the 3770k in overall gaming and much faster than the 3770k in programs that use more than 4 cores.

Why not go with a 3930K + X79 board? No need to wait 'till late 2014...

Haswell has twice the vector throughput per core, so a 6-core would be about three times faster than a quad-core Ivy Bridge, and the latter itself is already substantially faster than your Q6600.

Dude a 3930K would destroy your CPU so hard you'd mess your pants. But it would sure suck to have a quad core Haswell somehow beat that 3930K, lol. It could happen, right?

Tweak, contact your software vendor, if they're not going to benefit/implement from the new techs in hawell, tx/avx2, then screw it and get IVB or SB-E today.
