How much faster my current PIV setup will be with the 3:4 memory timing?

Finaly bought a deacent PC3200 stick (512Mb),
Will I gain a lot in terms of the performance by moving to 3:4 mem setting on my 1.8 at 18x133Mhz?

In apps that are more memory bandwidth sensitive you can pick up 5-10% performance...IN cpu depenedent apps you may not see anything...

look for my thread where I compare my 2.4@3.24 w/ 450mhz ddr versus 2.4@3.33 w/ 370mhz ddr...could give you insight in some apps that are favorable to more bandwidth...

Thx Duvie, I finally followed your advice from almost a year ago, and finally got the fast RAM...
It was worth waiting though, I paid the peanuts compared to what I would have to paid few months ago for this same stick....

Back when I had an Epox 4G4A, I ran it with the 3:4 ratio because it did perform very well, and noticably better than the 4:5. Unfortuately, some issues with that board (random lockups) kept me from going much higher than 2.8 GHz with the 3:4 ratio, but I could do 2.86 GHz with the 4:5. When shopping for a new board, my search was narrowed a lot because I didn't want to give up the 3:4 ratio. I have an Abit IT7 now, and am not disappointed at all. I found out that my CPU will do 2.98 GHz and I can be running DDR 440 thanks to the 3:4 ratio. I believe that your speed will be VERY close to that of a Granite Bay board. I compared my performance with a friend of mine who has the same system save for the i850E and RDRAM, and our systems perform almost identically.

The key issue is that, actually the PIV is designed to work with a wide, fat memory pipeline called RAMBUS, so it became somewhat crippled with small memory bandwith offered initially by the PC2100 DDR... But I hope to "enable" the 2.66 multiplier for my DDR memory soon, and maybe my PIV would be good enough to go to 150 Mhz FSB. Right now it does only 140 Mhz fsb (at default v core though ), but I had/still have a regular PC2100 stick, which I assume is holding my setup back..
We will see...
I have an older I845 chipset based Gigabyte-8IRXP, and so far... it has been the best mobo I ve ever owned...
No lockups, bluescreens, on a highly OC system...
