How much does the MB affect games?

Other than overclocking, how much of an impact can a new X58 MB really affect a game compared to and X38 MB or less? I know this is kind of a general question, I just want to know is it really worth going out to buy a new X58 MB or should I just keep the X38 that I have? Will I really see much of a difference in game performance if I am only using a single graphics card with no plan for SLI?

The X38 is a Socket 775 motherboard that supports Core2 Duo's/Quads/others. The X58 is totally different socket that supports the i7's. What you should be asking is Core2 vs Corei7 to which there are plenty of reviews on, it's worth it if you use applications that take advantage of it, for most games at the moment a Core2 Quad is fine.
