how much does the job pay?

pontifex

If you find a job you might be interested in on a site like Monster but they don't list the salary, is it ok to email them and ask before applying? or is that not a good thing to do?

I'd say go for it. The topic has to come up sooner or later...

Anyone ever had any luck with one of these job sites like Monster?

That is probably not a good thing to do. Salary is always a touchy subject. It would depend greatly on one's qualifications.

A friend of mine found a job on monster, but only after she clicked on EVERY link for a job posting. She got an interview with an actual employer after about 2 months, and landed a decent job. She did get harrassed by what seemed like hundreds of recruiters though...

i am currently searching and have been looking on monster, dice, and washingtonpost ... i typically get like 3-4 calls a week, but only a handful of them have gone onto full fledge interviews. i actually have 2 or 3 w/in the next few weeks.

but i have definitely had a lot of "success" i'd say with atleast getting on the phone w/these companies.

as far as the actual salary question, if it's a "career" type job, I would not email and ask them salary at first. in a career field, typically the experience will earn you the pay you deserve. however if you have been looking for a while and have been disappointed by going through the process of talking to the employer and getting to interviews, only to find out they are going to pay you less than you want, then i would just be straight up and tell them you dont want to waste anyone's time and want to know how much $ they are willing to offer.

I wouldn't email them cause it doesn't seem too "professional". But if you're really curious, maybe you should email with a different email address and see if you get a response.

I found the job that I'm in right now from monster. the company that I was with before I had found the job from hotjobs.

If you do e-mail you're jsut going to get a response of "DOE". (Depends on Experience). You go for the interview (if you even get one based of your resume -- cause it never hurts ) and if you seem like a valuable enuff asset to the company then you can probably negotiate best. If this is just your first job or something; i really wouldnt anticipate making a nice amount (probably less than 45kish--depending on your field) just because thats not the way it usually work. I guess you could e-mail and ask what "base" salary is for someone in that position. But you can just google that and probably get a ball park answer of what you want.
