How much does jewelry insurance cost?

I tried to add a piece of jewelry to my homeowner's insurance but they said they couldn't do it and it had to be written up in a separate personal policy. I asked them for a quote and they said it would range from $300 to $550 depending on my deductible.

Anybody have jewelry insurance tacked on to their homeowner's policy or do you have it on a separate policy?

My house contents insurance policy covers me cover £300 in cash, £100 watch, £200 phone.

anything over £1,000 had to be mentioned (and proved) which hiked up the price by £10 a month.

my fiancee's ring is tacked on to our home insurance. they based how much extra the cost would be on how much the ring appraised for. i cannot remember how much it went up, but i'm thinking that it wasn't too much.

My quotes we all in the range of $10/year per $1K insured value. This is in addition to the rental insurance that I carry.

Same here, for my Wife's. We had insurance on it while we were in an apt, and it required a content insurance policy then and when we moved the insurance company wanted too much for homeowners policy so we moved everything to a new company and the ring was included in that policy.

Get it appraised and get some quotes from a few companies.

For our jewelry it is roughly $3 a month ($3000 in coverage). So $36 a year. This is with State Farm. But since for every additional thing you have covered, your car insurance goes down, I may even be earning money by adding this policy.

that's odd. I have state farm too and they told me I needed a separate policy. I think she might be BSing me so she could write up a another policy.

That was a seperate policy that I mentioned.

Well, for a High $ item like an engagement ring, you would usually require a separate rider in addition to your current homeowners/renters insurance. Mine is $33 per 1K coverage per year in NYC.
