How much does it typically cost to remove a medium tree?

We have a tree in our back yard, that is probably 30 feet high? It kinda looks like this one but about 3/4 that size. We want to get it removed... Does anyone know how much that usually costs?

Burn it. It was $800 to have two decent-sized trees taken out at our house. They cut it up for us to use as firewood. I'm not sure what they would have charged to haul it all away.

Ouch. A place I'm looking at has 4 huge Firs (I think) that I'm going to have to have taken down. Each one of those things is 150 feet if it's an inch. Probably a lot more really

do you mean you need it entirely removed, or just cut down?

to remove all the roots and it'll be real expensive. it's cheaper to cut it down and then dump ALOT of salt on the stump to prevent it from growing back. and pour salt on it for a few years

We don't really need the roots removed... I'm just trying to get a basic prices so I can know if I am getting screwed or not when I call places for estimates.

We just got 2 really tall pines cut down, hauled away, and stumps ground for $450. What a deal.

30 ft., I'd do it myself and pay someone $150 to grind the stump.

The wife and I cut down sixteen 50 ft. pines with a 16" homelight chain saw.

I would just buy a chainsaw and cut it up. Or a manual saw, and get some exercise. I mean come on. It's wood. If you really need someone to come to your house and dispose of wood.....

I had one about that size cut down in my backyard several years ago. It was dead at the top and was poised to fall on the house any day. If memory serves, it cost like $350, but that was just the cost for the guy to come out, drop the tree, and then saw it into "slices." He didn't have to grind or chip it, or hault it off. It took me about two weeks on and off to split the wood for the fireplace. Of course, this was in Nashville, TN. The prices here differ drastically depending on how close the tree is to a house, powerlines, fences, etc. When the risks of the tree hitting something go up, apparently the price does, too.

Just do it yourself, it's really not that hard.

I used to take trees out as a side line.

Easiest way is to just climb the tree taking limbs off as you go up, then take the main part out on the way down. I usually cut out 3-4 foot sections. They are easy to control on their way down.

A day of hacking and cutting ... only to wonder what to do with the wood.

I wouldn't mind cutting it down, it's the disposal of the tree that I don't want to deal with. In my town we have to pay for all waste disposal, which includes yard refuse. For instance, a yard refuse sticker costs 2 bucks or something, and that is for one of those tall brown paper "yard bags". I would rather have someone come out with a chipper and get it all done with at once, and also get someone to dig up the stump.

Sell that sucker for fire wood!

If it's NOT dead (dry) you might still be able to sell it to some one that wants to burn it NEXT year.
