How much does it cost to replace a car windshield?

Well... was drivin' down a freeway and then heard a big bang on my windshield. Thought it was a big drop of rain that hit as it was raining. Next day I got in my car an noticed a big line crack on my windshield. From what I've read, the problem can't be repaired and will require me to purchase a new windshield. Anyone know how much a it costs w/labor? I have a 3 month old (the pain!) Chevy Prizm 2000. FYI, the car is basically a Toyota Corolla clone.

You might want to check with your insurance company first. I know my insurance company fixed mine with no dedutable fee. They even came out to my work and replaced it. Lots of times depending on the type of insurance you have they will fix it with no charge for your window.

Don't think the insurance company will cover it as I only have one-way liablity insurance. Don't have comp because ya know... 18 year old = lots of $$$ for insurance and I can't afford full coverage.

It really depends on what kind of car it is. Some windshields are more curved than others and cost a bit more. You can usually find one for between $250-$500

Look for a place that deals with used glass. I got a windshield replaced for $50 total including the windshield and the installation a few years back. A windshield is a windshield. What matters is that it fits, is not scratched, broken, and you can see through it.

Depends on where you live and what kind of vehicle you have. In Youngstown, Ohio, I got a used windshield, installed, in a '86 Chevy Celebrity wagon for $85.00. 'course that was probably 3 years ago. Check around. You'll find something used you won't have to pay an arm and a leg for -kd5-

It also depends on what you want to replace it with. For example gold bars would cost.........
