How much does it cost to rent a plane?

I'm sure some of you guys have your private pilots licenses, and I was wondering how much it costs to rent a small plane like a cessna or something? The reason I am asking is because a friend of my girlfriends loves to fly. And I was thinking I could rent the plane, and he could fly us somewhere which he loves to do, while getting some free flight time! Also, if a trip normally takes 5 hours by car on the highway, how long does a non-commercial plane ride take?

<< does he have his license?

152-$45-60/hr
172-$50-80/hr
182-$75-95/hr

Yep, thats about right...

When i took lessons a few years ago it was $50 an hour for the plane, $45 an hour for the instructor 🙂

<< lol my instructor was $20/hr

Had to pay $5 insurance too

Yea, it was cheaper at an airport a little farther north (Lantana), but it was uncontrolled and they had just had a string of accidents... I went to Pompano Beach Airport and Boca Executive (FREAKIN NICE ASS FACILITIES) for lessons...

Our facilities (Cross Keys, NJ 17N) were nice, but primitive.. The planes were really used hard too

In fact, my school just went out of buisiness because of too many accidents...Nobody would issue them insurance. 🙁

rented a 8 seater up eureka from oakland airport. Costed $2500.00 round trip. 🙂
Smooth Ride I tell ya.

Back in '95 I rented a plane. I took my nephew for a 1 hour ride around the city, saw my home from 1000 feet and flew over downtown Ft. Worth a few times. Then we did some touch and go landings at a few airports and had fun avoiding the restricted airspace over our local AFB (now a Naval Air Station 😕 ).

The neatest thing was when we were flying over lake Benbrook. We were all looking down at how people made these big waves with their boats on the water. I didnt stop to think about other planes flying over the lake! I happened to look up and saw this black dot get bigger and bigger - I mentioned it to the pilot who was still pointing out things on the water, "Whats that thing comming at us?!" We did an immediate turn. Whew!

edit: The cost was $100.
