If you did all the labor, besides machine work, yourself.. I bet you could do it for less than 1000$.. especially if you used stock oversize internals.

Yes, you could easily do it over the course of a year. WD-40 is your friend, don't let your sh!t rust while it's sitting around though.

If you "rebuilt" your lawnmower and did not replace any internal parts, then you did not "rebuild" it. :p

Rebuild means making it more or less to the same specs when it left the factory, besides oversize bores/pistons and undersize rods.

Overhaul usually just means a valve job. :p

Krylon orange spaypaint and a can o' Motor Honey and you're set.

the car isnt orange, maybe blue

Orange is a popular engine color for old chevys. I don't know if they did this from the factory or not.

The cost will depend on what you will replace and the quality of the parts used.

A rebuild in your spare time shouldn't take more than a month. I've noticed that if it takes longer you run into problems of parts missing and rust setting in from non-use (and the lack of oil). But for the honing of the cylinders and whatnot, you'll need a machine shop.

Do a search on rebuilding Chevy Small Blocks, given that they seem to be in every 3rd Hot Rod magazine I'd assume the internet has one or two million walkthroughs.

Orange would be the proper color for the motor as I recall.
