How much does it cost to rebuild an engine?

Big block stuff costs more money. Somethings are considerably more.

Edit: Big block Parts generally cost more than small block parts. But we really need
to know what motor and application we're talking about here.

Complexity of the engine will determine labor prices, and cost of parts varies depending on the type of engine. The size of the cylinders has no bearing on how much it costs to rebuild.

If you're planning on dropping the car off somewhere, telling them you want the engine rebuilt, and expecting to come back later and drive it home, I'd expect to pay at least $2500, regardless of what vehicle/motor it is.

1968 Camaro, 327 8 cylinder. It isnt running right now, b/c i think its got a problem with the fuel pump.


But if it came down to it, how much would a rebuild be?

Well, the good news is that you have quite possibly the easiest setup to actually rebuild. But the question lies in what quality of components? It'll cost you a few thousand but I'm sure a good top fueler's crew could rebuild it in an afternoon 🙂

You'd still have to send it out for machine work.

To make it look pretty, as in chrome? and color matching cables and stuff, get out your credit cards, and get another job to pay for them.

An engine like that i would suggest you doing most of the prep work, pull the motor, steam clean it, then pull it apart, anything that needs machining send out, and make sure machining will not be more than just replacing or getting a better part.
