It's a 2002 Nissan Sentra and the mechanic says I should get it replaced. He quoted me a price of $350 and it sounds a little high to me. Any estimates?

Yeah, the next car will be a freaking Honda.

No kidding. Audi wanted almost $1600 to replace the timing belt on my A4. My next car will be Japanese too :p

Do it yourself. It's easy and you don't need any special expensive tools I?m sure there is a website that will show you how.

I've done this precedure on every car I have ever owned. A good Haynes or Chilton book will walk you through the steps. Doesn't take too many special tools. A C-clamp to push the piston back into the caliper is the only specal tool needed. Perhaps a star bit to remove the caliper, tha't all. Easy as pie.

does that include the pads/rotors?

just changed the pads on my 01 Sentra myself, 40 bucks at advance for the cheap pads.

I will need rotors though as im getting a gripping/pulsing feeling still when i brake

I have been looking at the brembo blanks online, you can get them for abour 150 for all 4. ebay has the drilled/slotted for like 220 shipped.

25 for both rotors, 26 for both pads, 51 for the pads/rotors on my 82 accord (only front, rear shoes are wearing though, need to replace them soon)

26 both front pads, 51 both front rotors on my 92 dakota, again never have done the rear shoes but am debating on whether or not to convert the rears to disc. there is a decent priced kit out there for it.

~$30 for front pair, ~$35 for back pair for my old Honda Civic... brand new, OEM. They are easy to replace, if you have a floor jack, garage and tools.

You want new rotors? It's likely you can have th old ones machined flat again. The AutoZone in my old neighborhood would do it for $5 (or was it $15??) each.

I had this done a while ago. I didn't change my brakes for way to long and the rotors were screwed. I think I paid almost exactly what you were quoted. 2001 Hyundai Elantra.

My BMW stealer wanted $1200. I decided to replace it myself. Parts only cost $300 included 4 rotors, brake sensors, and brakes shoes. One suggestion, have them bleed you brakes while they're at it.

i paid the honda dealer 260 - included an oil change, refinish the rotors, and replaced just the front brakes, plus 15% off because i had to wait an extra hour.

$200 total should be about right unless you demand OEM everything and you need all 4 rotors replaced (worn too much).

$50 labor each axle, $50 parts each axles. resurface rotor and generic pads.

pads AND rotor for a sentra should cost around 100.. no more than 150. its freaking EASY to do--1 hour of labor, tops. do it yourself, or give a friend a 24 pack of beer to get er done. 350$ is a ridiculous quote (perhaps not by automotive repair standard, but from my viewpoint).... especially since a 3 year old car NEEDNT have its rotors replaced

That is a reasonable price for all four tires.

).... especially since a 3 year old car NEEDNT have its rotors replaced
All depends on how many miles, and driving style.

you cant trust following a website do DIY, but you cant trust shops, either?

first time i ever did it , i found instructions from a gm z-71 truck for my nissan sentra... turns out it was straight forward ... pretty much putting a circle peg in a circle hole.. like someone said, the only tool needed is an 8$ large c-caliper.
