Good question. I actually wondered that myself. Expect to be raped on coffin prices: red wood, pillows, leather interior, AC, Harman/Kardon stereo system...

depends...a life flight ride is going to run you several K at least. My ambulance ride (not dead :D) was about 1.5 K alone. My dad's life flight was 9K iirc. Caskets run from 1-2K (iirc) up to ultra deluxe models) or up to 10-20K.

DONNELLY: Yes. I understand you're taking away the remains.
WALTER: Yeah.
DONNELLY: We have the urn.
DONNELLY: And I assume this is credit card?
WALTER: Yeah. What's this?
DONNELLY: That is for the urn.
WALTER: Don't need it. We're scattering the ashes.
DONNELLY: Yes, so we were informed. However, we must of course transmit the remains to you in a receptacle.
WALTER: This is a hundred and eighty dollars.
DONNELLY: Yes sir. It is our most modestly priced receptacle.
DUDE: Well can we--
WALTER: A hundred and eighty dollars?!
DONNELLY: They range up to three thousand.
WALTER: Yeah, but we're--
DUDE: Can we just rent it from you?
DONNELLY: Sir, this is a mortuary, not a rental house.
WALTER: We're scattering the fvcking ashes!
DUDE: Walter--
WALTER: JUST BECAUSE WE'RE BEREAVED DOESN'T MEAN WE'RE SAPS!
DONNELLY: Sir, please lower your voice--
DUDE: Hey man, don't you have something else you could put it in?
DONNELLY: That is our most modestly priced receptacle.
WALTER: G-DD@MNIT! IS THERE A RALPH'S AROUND HERE?!

depends what a person wants , seriously.

Myself I want a rented coffin and to be buried in a cardboard buriel box with no embalming or cremated. I can't see wanting to be buried in a 2000 dollar box and preserved. If my family has issues with cost cremate me and dump my ashes in a river or something.

What if a person donates his body for the advancement of someone's education towards a lucrative career as a health professional? Would the cost be much lower?

the prices for a funeral can vary. Pretty much depends on how much you want to spend on the funeral.

OK, glad you 'splained a bit more...
I was gonna tell ya that dying is free...(about the ONLY thing you get free in life...it's disposing of the body that costs money.

NO part of dying is cheap, (after the initial free event), but how much it will cost, will depend on a variety of things...
creamation or burial?
Fancy urn or gonna scatter the ashes? (have a place picked for that if that's the choice? MANY laws restricting where you can scatter)
How fancy of a casket is wanted if burial is the choice?
WHERE would the burial take place...(that's some EXPENSIVE real-estate)

It was about 10k for my dad. Nothing fancy with simple burial.

Mine should be cheaper. I'm going the cremation route.
