what it should cost
basic should be 20 a mo
internet should be 20 a mo

yeah, lol, with a monopoly they would have to more than double their subscriber base to make the same profit with what they charge now. Then they would have to hire more employees since their customer base would be twice the size.

Don't have basic, but I pay $97/month for digital cable, all the movie channels, and 3mb internet.

Edit: this is Charter by the way, and its a hellofva deal when split 5 ways 🙂

A lot more than double... I'm not even sure if they could make ANY profit at $20 a month. They do have to pay for all of those channels they're giving you.

Regarding their monopoly, that's changing... with satellite most people have 3 choices now. Then there's Verizon with FiOS and at&t with project lightspeed that will be added to the mix eventually.

Basic canle is about 14.99 here. Cable internet is $45

What do I think it should cost? Whatever the market will bear. It's not up to me to set the prices of other people's products. If it's too much, I won't buy it.

easy when you have alternatives. When i lived in richmond, DSL wasnt available, it was comcast or nothing

I pay Comcast $52/mo for internet, 4mb/384kb. I think $20/month would be much more reasonable for this sort of line, once FIOS shows up Comcast will be gone in a heartbeat. Verizon can give me $35/mo for 5/2, I could run a nice little web server. I could even get 15/2 for less than I pay now. I don't even pay for TV, just plain vanilla internet.

Again, if they charge too much, people won't buy it.

High speed internet is NOT a necessity.

$44.95 for digital cable, HD tier and HD-DVR service
$41.95 for 11Mbps
$3.88 for BS taxes and "fees"
$90.78 total per month with Timewarner

I get my money's worth IMO

I pay $50 for 4mb down 384 up through charter, and another $85 for the premium pkg with all movie channels. I consistently get 2.7-3.0 down speeds per independent speed tests, which is pretty good and better than most 4mb services.

We have "packages"....that's about it.

I pay $150 for Cable TV/3mb Internet/Local and LD phone service.

Not TOO bad...but I don't use the phone service....I'm basically paying $75 for TV and $75 for internet.
