I usually tip a server 20% of the bill. It's easy to calculate quickly and what's an extra buck or two when it's all said and done.

I hear that wealthy folks don't tip well. I wonder if that's true?

I don't tip. Rather, I make the wait staff tip me for having the honor of waiting on me.

Depends what the tip is for.

Low-end full service restaurants, 15-20%
High-end restaurants, 20-30%
The guy who dries off my car at the car wash, $5
Valet, if well taken care of; $5-10
Exotic Dancers, $1-$10 per song depending on how hot she is
Pizza guy, usually 15% plus a few extra bucks

edit: In accordance with the colossal tipping thread of '06, these values are based on acceptable or better service. Subpar service is subject to immediate beat-down.

10% More or less depending. Sometimes they will get more or less because I round it to an even dollar amount.

Now stop the tipping threads already!

25%-30% for great service
20% for average/good service
15% for slighly below average service
0%-10% ONLY if server is very rude, but not simply over not filling my drink up fast enough

20% but as high as 30-35% if they do a good job.
I have a lot of friends that are bartenders and waitresses. I appreciate the service I get and enjoy giving them a few extra bucks.
In return, if I am hungry and the kitchen is closed, they might make me something anyway. I get better pours when I order drinks, and never have to wait for them. At last call, my friends and I always can get "one more" if we want, even if last call has already passed.
I don't know why so many people here don't understand that tipping well has its benefits. Waitstaff and bartenders remember who takes care of them, and the next time you see them, they are happy to go the extra mile to make sure you are happy. If you don't want to tip, don't. But don't get mad when you are standing at a crowded bar, trying to get the bartenders attention to order a drink and I walk in and I am served before you.

When I go out for dinner, I like being treated well, and I know that in life you have to reward people that do that. I guess in a perfect world everyone would run to their job and be excited to make everybody's day as great as they can. But, unfortunately, that is not the case.
I don't care how anyone else tips, all the cheapskates make me look even better.

I do something around 15% for adequate service. 20 - 30 for really good service. and 10 or less for crappy service.
