How much do you tip at the car wash for a regular wash and hand dry?

How about for a $100-150 "detailing"?

A buck or two. If they don't like it that's tough. Working at car washes is entry level work and if they want to earn more they should get an education. Being in the country illegally and not speaking English is no excuse. They have to take responsibility for their own futures.

They pool their tips, so each tip goes to everyone along the way, from vacuuming, to hand washing to drying.

Is there anyone in any industry that you tip?

I've washed a car that I own one time, and it was because gasoline spilled on it. I don't understand the point. And I honestly have no clue what a detail is or why you'd pay $150 to make your car look better.

Because when my car is clean, girls think I have a bigger penis.

I wash the outside of my car every few months, but I keep the inside very clean. I don't really clean it out that much. I just reduce the mess I make, don't pile up random shit, and keep a small hand broom in the truck.

I'm 6'6", girls already assume things about me. Even if I wasn't married I don't think I'd ever consider my car a tool to pick up women. *shrug*

I do clean the inside of my car. It's not really clean, but manageable.

If you do not care how your car looks, then, yeah, there is no point.

I have found that washing my car makes it easier to see out of the windows, especially at night and helps the paint job look better longer.

I drive a pretty nice car and sometimes drive clients around. Even then, I only get it washed inside and out every couple months. I will use the drive-through car wash at the gas station about twice a month.

I just got it detailed because it was parked under a tree a few weeks back and I got some tree sap (or something) all over it that I could not get off. The detailing got it off great.

Well I used to think that people spent their money like idiots. Now I've taken up the attitude that I don't really care what people spend their money on. I'll drive my car till it dies, and the paint is already destroyed from acid rain or something. Hell, I only have 3 hubcaps. I have almost zero pride in ownership, but my car rocks for transportation!

You put $2 in the cup holder and hope they don't pocket your coin stash and whatever's in your glove compartment. I worked at the car wash one summer w/ a bunch of friends, we pocket half the change and whatever you got hiding in your car.

$0 - I don't let anyone touch my car. I also don't let any machine strip the wax off my car and spray recycled city water all over it. Car washes are for people who don't care about their car's finish at all.

I collect Esso and Petro points every time I buy gas, at this point I have around 7 free car washes with a 48 hour weather guarentee, so if it rains or snows I get a free re-wash (that's only with Petro though).

I work at a car wash doing detailing and I don't expect tips, but that's probably because I consider our hourly wage ($8/hr) to be pretty fair. The work really isn't too difficult -- I've worked worse jobs that payed less. Probably about 20% tip at least a few dollars, though, which is kind of nice. Isn't too bad for a part time college job, at least.

I probably wouldn't tip unless I asked them to do something extra, though. Really I probably wouldn't get my car detailed unless it was to steam clean the carpets or something big like that, I'd rather clean it myself and save the money.

Tip at the car wash? FUCK NO!! (not unless they were asked to do something WAAAAY out of the ordinary.

Detailers? Maybe. That would depend on how bad the car was to begin with...and how it looked when they were done...and how much it cost to start with.
$150? The tip is built into the price IMO.

$0. I don't tip people for things that I could do myself.

I tip my proctologist...
