How much do you think the government hides from us?

2. I think most government "cover-ups" are just to hide the rampant corruption and incompetence.

2.7777777777777777777/3

rumor is - military has already developed cold fusion with the green men. they won't release the formula b/c it will collapse world economies! we can't fvck up cheney's Energy policy now, can we?

pssssst, don't tell anyone i said this 😛

I'd say a 2.8.

Nothing like hiding aliens or any bogus crap like that, but I do think that they hide a lot of extremely incriminating political evidence, such as the whole Iran-Contra affair.

I do not believe in the big wacko tinfoil hat conspiracies such as hiding aliens, faked moon landings, or oil companies stopping them from making cars that run on water, or perpetual motion machines, etc. That's all loony crap.

But you bet that we're lying about our relations with certain countries, which we feel is in the best interest of the USA. Look at the current Iraq war. I never believed in any of the pretenses of going there such as WMD. That was all BS. But I think that in the end it will benefit us financially.

Well they have to be hiding something alien-like. As in advanced aircraft and whatnot. Perhaps vehicles that hover by intense oscillation or something?

There's too many UFO sightings that are most likely military test stuff to say that they don't hide THAT kind of stuff from us.

IMO, not much, only the stuff regarding national security and a bit more.
On the topic of non-governmental information control, I'd vote 2,5. The pharmaceutical industry is a major player.

interesting.. care to elaborate more?

An example:

Do some research/googling on vitamins and their effects, RDA and Codex Alimentarius (the pharmaceutical cartel's newest attempt to force utter stupidity on people), the existence or non-existence of vitamin overdosing and try to avoid propaganda-filled pages of either side (there are a lot of obviously wrong conspiracy theorists). Google how animals "supply" themselves with vitamins and why we (humans) are unable to do so to get a better understanding of the whole issue.
After googling, wonder why people buy vitamin-enriched food for their dogs. 🙂 Marketing can do wonders.

An "official" article regarding the daily dosages
According to te Codex A. and the aforelinked text, the recommended daily dosage of vitamin C is 60mg. Chances are, unless you eat rubbish, you consume more than that every day. Consuming 5000-10000mg a day wouldn't have any negative effects on you (a lot of people do it on purpose to stay healthy or recuperate faster).
Vitamins with the exception of C (and E, IIRC) can only be overdosed when consumed imbalancedly (way too much B and A will make your body need more of the others as well).

Of course, there are other interesting issues as well, like how stuffing children with less sharp focusing skills full of Ritalin "helps" them get better...
If you've read this far, you might want to look into the real prices of medications and why selling them is such a profitable business. Ask a family member who works in an apothecary about their profits.

Fake moon landing. Er, no

Hiding evidence of aliens? No, but that's because I have no reason to believe in them. Otherwise, the US or any country would quickly shut down any information regarding their discovery. Here they classify when someone farts at an intel meeting, so sure they would do this too.

The government certainly controls the media. When you are in Iraq, you have to get approval for any story sent out. Common knowlege.

2-3/4 for me

I'm far from a wacked out conspiracy theorist.

But I'm fairly certain pretty much all the new "war machines" in development are classified to some extent. Otherwise, the enemy would find out how to make them and we would loose a lot of our technical edge. It's not keeping people in the dark because they want totalitarian dictatorship. It's withholding information in the interest of national security.

2.2

The government will withhold embarrassing information or information likely to lead to payouts for past mid-deeds.

Examples: Tuskeegee experiments, radiation exposures to Pacific Islanders from nuclear testing. Radiation/chemical exposures to workers in weapons facilities. Environmental impacts of policies: climate change, logging, grazing, oil development, air quality.
