How much do you think my computer is worth?

Having put together a moderately powerful machine for a friend around 600 dollars made me look upon my machine. Built 2 years ago, it was pretty kick ass. Now, it's still very good, but new wouldn't hurt.

What I have currently...

AMD Antlon 64 X2 4200+ 2.2Ghz Socket 939
ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939, obviously
2GB of RAM (Muskin, 4 sticks, all 512MB, dual channel)
BFG GeForce 7800 GT OC

The rest I would want for my new system, my hdd, my dvd player, etc.

How much do you think this stuff could get on eBay or something? Would it be better to auction it together or separate? Is it really worth selling and upgrading or should I just hold out?

not as much as you'd think
dead end socket, amd thrashed by intel recently, ram is worthless these days especially in 512dimm instead of now miniumum of 1gb sticks, video card is old.
but yeaa, ebay, and hope someone thinks its worth something. a new fully built pc is less trouble for most people, and people who build pc's from parts know what stuff is worth.

Yup, it's better to keep the old system and use it for a server/media box or HTPC.
I held onto my P4 system that works perfectly fine after I bought my C2D system until I just never used it at all anymore, and it's not worth much.
The PC parts game sucks for selling used!
Price checks aren't really allowed here, so just look the individual parts up on eBay or in the FS sections of PC sites and add them up.

yup, used parts can mean trouble/risk because of overclocking/damage.
kicks down the worth.
try selling the bits individually i guess.
selling all 3 at once probably limits the buying pool. either sell parts, or a whole system. never 3 bits of a system.

One more thing I've learned - Even if the parts all together are worth a bit, $50 here, $50 there, most people would rather buy a new PC than a bunch of parts. Older parts are good for one piece at a time replacements in older systems, i.e. their RAM craps out, motherboard stops working, etc.
Then again, another thing I've learned - People on eBay will buy ANYTHING for ANY PRICE.
My rule for eBay - Always sell there, never buy there!

asking for pricing is allowed on the forums now? in that case, i'd pay at most $200 (probably $150) for that, with a 2 month guaranteed working warranty. truthfully

Technically speaking, it is proper for the "For Sale/Trade" Forum. Pragmatically speaking, the value of anything is only what someone else is willing to pay for it. The EBay comment is a good one - people there tend to be a bit looney and get carried away by the process.

I thought pricechecks were forbidden for one reason or another. But, do you really need a new rig ? If you overclock that 4400+ to 2.6ghz or higher if possible you should be fine in the CPU department. You've got a PCI-e Mobo, you can throw in a 8800gt, and take that card with you in a new build later on. You've allready got 2gb of ram. I'd prolly just buy a new videocard, and leave it be.

I was thinking about a new video card, also. If I wait and hold out for a new rig though, is there anything I should look forward to? (A new core or something?)

And sorry if I was breaking a rule, just wanted a vague estimate if someone ever sold anything similar on eBay or something. I didn't think it'd probably be worth to sell it anyways.

A pc you built yourself two years ago is going to be worth more to you than anyone imho.
At least that is the case with me and my own builds.

I have found an infinite use for many pc's so I am sure you can do the same.

If budget is a concern I built a similar system then upgraded only the vid card and was quite happy.
...didn't resolve my upgrade-itis but that is a disease that doesn't get fixed easily, lol.

Because Intel has dominated since 939, the parts are not in much demand.

They are. They're disallowed in order to prevent auction-style bidding wars starting over valuations.

Usual responses: search ebay, froogle, other auction sites etc. and see what seems to be the going market rate for your second-hand tat.

There isn't going to be a card for 100$ that's going to be a REAL stepup from your 7800GT OC. You could sell the 7800GT OC, and add 100$ though, and probably get something like a HD3870 512mb.
