About ~$1.50/day for gas. Roughly 12 miles round-trip, all city driving. I do have to run appointments out of the office at least 2-3 times a week, so that adds to the cost a bit (but is tax deductible, unlike commuting).

I insist on short commutes, and have turned down more than one job offer because the commute was too long. Fighting an hour or more to work and back every day is bad for personal morale and productivity, which in my job could hurt my income (in addition to the pure expense of commuting). Plus, having the office close allows me to be more flexible. Then there's the environmental costs of commuting, etc.

I drive about 10 minutes each way between work & home. Dollarwise, I don't know - but it isn't much.

60 miles a day (give or take), 20 miles to the gallon (city driving) -> 3 gallons of gas a day -> $8.50 a day. so this means about 20 minutes of my working day goes for paying to get to and from work, that's not so bad.

parking is all free.

~$5.30 for gas + ~$11 car payment + ~$2 for maintenance, so roughly $18.30 everyday.

How depressing. :(

[Edit] Woops, for commute only, it's ~$5.30 for gas. :) Free parking, no tolls, just lots of red lights.

Mass transit in Austin = no good if you live outside of town.

I take public transportation, $5 to work on the Express, and $2 back on the Local, so $7 in all.

If I drive: 1.50 in gas (at 20mpg) + p(parking ticket)*$20 or about $2.16 / day

If I ride in: $0.00

Both methods take about 20 minutes door to door.

About 1 gallon per day.

I have a 9 mile each way commute and get about 18MPG on that loop.

56 mile round trip, Car gets ~25 MPG in the highway/stop-go traffic, gas is 2.85/gal so about $6.00

100 miles a day, 4 days a week. 16 gallons a week minimum = $50. Parking=$300/semester.

So I spend about $65-$70/week, just getting to school and work.

$6 on gas daily, but I live in East-Europe so it has small significance I guess. It's like 8km from home to the company, that's about 5 miles. 10miles total a day. I simply don't like communal transportation, that would be cheaper but heck, $6 a day won't make me (any more) poor.

Well, it seems at least one person in this thread spends as much as me on commuting. The odd thing is that my job is no more than 10 miles away from my house, and I would love to bike to work, but unfortunately I don't think they will let me ride my bike in the tunnel. ;)

$235 / month in parking.

I only live 4 miles away from work, so gas isn't an issue, but I work in a really bad area of newark. car theft capital of america. after my car got broken into and vandalized, I started paying to park my car in a lot underneath the office. despite the expense, it's nice. I can park my car underground, take an elevator right up to my office on the 8th floor, and never have to worry about being out on the street.
