I spend way too much money commuting from NJ to NY. Right now I am spending $21 a day just to park my car in a parking lot and take mass transit. I hate every aspect of my commute.

Just curious as to what you guys spend on your monthly commuting expenses.

Do you get reimbursed?

I spend $4 a day on toll, and maybe $7 a day on gas.

Bus pass, $95/month so ~$4/day both ways... no need to worry about parking/gas for my car! :D

When traveling to my main office: (42ish miles away, commute takes 50-70 minutes)
$3 in tolls
$10 in gas

When traveling to a remote office: (11 miles away, commute takes 25-40 minutes)
$0 in tolls
$2 in gas

I prefer going to the remote office.

10 minute walk = Freebie
I can park in the lot and if it's raining I do, that is $78/year for the pass.

~70 miles round trip.

I arranged my hours so I miss most of the traffic so my commute it about 35 mins in each direction.

In the summer however because of where I live and people heading up north. My afternoon commute is usually 90 minutes. Even at 7:30 at night I94 is jam packed.

But that will change after Labor day.

No i don't. the part i can't stand is that I used to pay $7 a day for parking downtown, and then I would hop on the Path to NY. Now since these morons decided to close one of the biggest parking lots in Jersey Sh!tty, owners decided to jack up the price to compensate so now I pay $14 a day now. Then add $7 a day for round trip transit on the trains and that is $21 dollars, not including gas for my car, which adds an additional $5 bucks a day.:p

I can't continue to keep throwing away money like this, so I am trying to look for alternatives, if any.:(

live 1.25 miles from campus - options:
1. walk (free)
2. walk .5 mile and take shuttle bus (free)
3. bike (free)
4. drive, park ($540/year for parking pass, 250 days a year - gotta go some weekends..$2 per day plus $3 gas)

already bought parking pass, havent decided which i will do..probably drive if its raining/cold

$72 a month for light rail pass
$1.60 a day for coffee * 20 = $32
$1.75 a day for scone * 20 = $35
Total: $139

Although, I'm getting pretty sick of it taking 90 mins to get home in the afternoon. It's a 25 minute drive.

Roughly $5.40/day to drive from Dunwoody to Buckhead here in Atlanta + $1.00 for the toll there and back.
