how much do you spend on food a month? (include number people the amount accounts for)

i'm particularly interested in hearing what people with low budget eat. what's your typical day like food-wise?

About 250-300$/mo for 2 people.

Lots of chicken, turkey, beef, corn, potatos, cereals, bulk foods, milk(I'd get soy, but it's too expensive..).. and unfortunately, things like pot-pies and frozen pizzas, canned goods like soup, stew, chili, sometimes fruits, cup-o-noodles, tv-dinners, and chimichongas/burritos to snack on. We usually have a bag of mixed fruit and the typical vegetables available, too.. bananas, apples, oranges, pears.. lately we've been getting strawberries. My girlfriend always has a cucumber and a bottle of light ranch around. I like carrots.

We also eat out(fast food) appx. once a week.

I only make a little more than that a month, so you can consider me poor. :p

Roughly $100 in groceries and roughly $100 in bar tabs.

Low budget food is ramen, two packs is quite the meal at 20 cents. I usually eat lots of rice with my beef, chicken, pork. Vegetables are very cheap. 50 cents gets a nice serving of green beans, or a whole bell peper, or two tomatoes, or even sometimes a whole head of lettuce.

about 300 for myself but that includes all the whey and vitamins along with my food.

weekly i eat about 8 pounds of turkey/beef/tuna, a dozen eggs, 4-5 gallons of milk (down from 6+), a few cups of yogurt, 3 heads of lettuce, 1 or 2 of broccoli, 4-5 cups of mixed vegetables, maybe 10 cups of rice or pasta, a box of cereal, 7 protein bars and a loaf of bread. burp.

I don't buy the food that we keep in the house, so everything I spend on food is spent eating out...

I'd say that I probably average about $50/week. I usually go out to dinner with my friends on Friday or Saturday night, so that's $20 right there, and the rest of it is spent grabbing quick dinners from the deli down the street (sandwiches mostly).

At least 500 a month for 2 adults and 4 kids. That doesn't count the 1 to 2 times per week that we eat out (usually pizza or fast food, but the occasional nice restaurant as well.

Lots of potatos, rice, pasta, chicken, and veggies.. Fish, pork, and beef are less common since we are trying to keep the food budget down.

If you don't want to eliminate meat, the best way to stay low budget is to make dishes that include a little meat mixed with pasta or rice rather than having meat as a main dish. I can use a half pound of chicken diced up and mixed with noodles when it would take probably 2 pounds if chicken was a main dish.

EDIT: actually 3 kids. The fourth is only 3 months old so zero food cost there.

I would say I"m down to about 30 bucks a month for one person. Sucks being poor. I eat two packs of ramen one day then the next day I eat a can of tuna. Then start over. Drink a bunch of water and eat baby carrots. I can't wait till I graduate and get a real job.

$250-$300 /month

chicken, beef, pork, deli meats, potatoes, few vegetables, pasta, sandwhiches, homemade desserts...im starting to cook some seafood now; and plan on learning new vegetable dishes since i dont eat enough of them.

most of thats for me and the wife, our 2 1/2 year old daughter eats meals with us; usually about half of what my wife eats, my son is still eating baby food

we usually each eat out twice a week.

About $350. Wendy's, McDonalds, Subway, Arby's, occasionally some homemade sandwiches, and about once a month: sushi or a nice steak dinner.

How much is your internet connection/cable TV/new clothes/new video card/etc. costing you per month?

I'm sorry, but if you do, in fact, have a job and can only afford to spend $30/mo. on food, something's not right. If you don't have a job and are paying your own tuition, then maybe it's time to get another loan.

$30 for a month's worth of food is not only unhealthy, it's downright dangerous.

I spend $120-$150/mo. on food. Lots of ground beef (for chili), lots of cut veggies, some frozen stuff (mostly burritos), lots of milk and OJ and cereal, some chicken (breaded and sauteed...yum!), snack foods and cookies.

I go shopping about once a week - once every week and a half. I like to make a big dish every Sunday or Monday and just eat it through the week. Then on Sunday, repeat.

Crock pots are great for that kind of thing.

I spend roughly 120, although usually its been a bit less than that and that usually includes gas money and misc stuff. I have a breakfast bar for breakfast, eat the same frozen dinner for lunch and then either grill a steak and potato or go to subway. Toss in some sunflower seeds for snacks and the bottled water and I'm good to go. Thanks for bringin this up though cus now I'm gonna go make chili for next week so I dont have to keep eating the same frozen dinner for lunch (its been at least a month now, but its still really good).

hahahah, we have the 30 dollars a month internet deal from sbc and my roomates pay my share for me. I'm currently using my awesome athlon 500mhz with voodoo3 video card. This thing is really smoking. I don't buy new clothes. Full time student plus working on campus. I'm doing fine, I feel fine just riding it out till graduation. Its really expensive living in a college town where rent goes up 5% every year even if you don't move.
