How much do you sleep?

All my life I've been the typical 8 hour per night type person. The last couple of weeks though I've been sleeping about 6-7 hours a night, just so I feel like I'm getting more time out of my day. I found for the most part I didn't crash until the end of the week. I am kind of concerned about the long term effects though (low energy, feeling depressed, lack of concentration, etc).

So ATOT how much do you sleep per night? If you go with less sleep how does it affect you, and do you believe it's possible to adapt to less sleep without ill effects?

7 - 9 hours, depending on circumstances.

i would cut down on sleep if i could. but any less and i really feel it mentally and physically.

I try to get 8 but it depends on my shift. If it's an early morning shift I might have 4-6 hours, if it's night shift I'll get my full 8, if I'm off I can easily sleep 12 hours, which is no fun since I feel like crap after, so I try to avoid it, or at least go to bed at like 4-5am so getting up at 12 gives me 8 hours. If I go to bed early I'll still wakeup naturally around the same time. Basically if I don't put an alarm clock I naturally wakeup around 2-3pm. Used to be 12pm but it's later now it seems. Night shifts are the best since it lets me sleep and get up naturally without an alarm.

average night:

sleep at 9:30pm
wake up between 1&2am
back to sleep around 5 am
back awake at 7

Insomnia sucks

My body seems to really want something like 19 waking hours and 9 hours of sleep, needless to say that doesn't make a particularly convenient schedule. So on a typical day I fall asleep at about 1:30 am and wake up at 8:00am, I am a zombie before lunch.

Spent the better part of 20 years on 5 hrs. night, every night.
Went to ~6-7 hrs. after I stopped commuting.
Since retiring, I do well on 5 hrs., but better with 7 hrs.(But I'm 57 YO, also)

7-8 hours during the week, 10-12+ on weekend. Like last night slept from 2:30am - 4pm FTW.

I can go with say 5 hours some nights, but like you mentioned it really catches up by mid to end of the week.

I hate you!

I would sacrifice a testicle for a night of sleep like that.

If you operate heavy machinery you just might sacrifice a testicle like that. That wasn't a night of sleep it was a nap. He will crash at some point.

Sunday night - Thursday night: Roughly 6 hours.

Friday night and Saturday night: About 12 hours.
I wish I could reliably stay asleep that long anymore. Lately, it seems I can't sleep past 8am anymore, though I'll typically wake up closer to 7am, which is about when I'd be prepping to leave for work during the week. :\

Though, oddly enough, I'd also gladly pay more money than I'm ready to think about if it meant I wouldn't ever need to sleep again. Evolution's left us just about as bad as something that's solar powered: Lights go out, and we effectively begin to shut down until the light comes back.
