About 40% of after-tax income, including 401k. But our house is paid off.

I'm envious, bordering on just plain fvcking jealous. 😱

Don't be envious. I had to work hard for a long time to get to this point. I started with nothing - even had to pay my own way through college. As I mentioned in another thread recently, the home I grew up in is worth about $15,000 TODAY. That should give you an idea of where I came from.

I pretty much bust my @ss like its made of glass but for the most part its been very difficult getting ahead, certainly to that level of annual savings % and retirement deposits, and home mortgage etc. I'm not a quitter tho, and you should be proud because you're obviously not either, and that's fantastic.

LOL, sounds like my life, I think the home of my youth sold for $20K 2 years ago. It was in bumfuck South Dakota though...

20% pre-tax goes into my 401k
3% post-tax goes into savings

My goal is to save my age. So this year I will save 23% of my income, next year 24%, etc.

I honestly have no idea. We try to save a lot and not waste money like most of our friends do. Our mortgage is our only debt right now ($2000/mo). Cars are paid off and we have zero credit card debt.

Money is not taken from my paycheck for neither DC nor Federal taxes, so I pay SE taxes.

33% of Gross = Taxes
14% of Gross = Savings
9% of Gross = Charity
6% of Gross = Savings for next car (if/when that will ever happen).

Total: 62% but if subtract taxes and charity, only 20% of Gross.
