California. Mixed, curbside recycling. You toss it all into the blue bin, and they pick it up and sort it elsewhere. I recycle everything that I can.

I notice neighbors toss stuff into the garbage. No idea why they do that...

Necro... but I recycle anything I think I can, even stuff I know they said not to.

The biggest piss off is the PETE black food container. My municipality won't take that for some reason. I throw it in the recycling anyway and hope they collect it and somehow recycle.

I do the usual :
Separate paper into a dedicated plastic bag that gets emptied into a city paper container.
Separate glass to be thrown into a a city glass container.
All other just goes with the trash since i do not have more options.
A few streets further, people have the option to separate biological waste. But here we do not since we all live in a flat.
I do recycle technical material like electrical components and pc hardware that i have left over as much as possible or give it away to friends who need it.
I have a dedicated sturdy groceries back. So no need for plastic bags from the shops.
I do carry a plastic bag in my backpack to do quick groceries when i go to home from work. But i reuse it until it falls apart. Only then i will buy a new one and discard the damaged one to the trashbin. Once every 4 months or so, i have to buy a new plastic bag.

Think of it as not so much a necro but a recycled thread :)

I collect #1 & 2 plastic, glass & some paper & take it to the dropoff containers when i get a full bag or box.

Everything they take, and a bit more. They're unclear about some items, so I put it in the box, and they can deal with it. They say they take juice boxes, but don't take coated paper. Which is it? A juice box is coated paper. Does that apply to Tetrapaks? Who the hell knows? They say they take toys, but when I put out a kids three wheeler with the metal removed, they leave it. So I cut it up, and put it in the box :^D

They need to post technical details somewhere so people that can read can see what they really take, and leave the idiot's guide for everyone else.

I try to recycle everything I can, paper cardboard, plastics, glass etc. some things are just too hard to clean though so I might not bother, like foil paper after cooking, will be all full of grease and crap so I'll put it in the trash.

They don't recycle down here (DR), although they have at least started to pick up the garbage on the side of the road a bit.

i recycle as much as i can. it's stupid not to - especially aluminum. aluminum is one of the (if not the) most recyclable materials on the planet. it only takes about 5% of the energy to recycle aluminum vs mining it. that's how goddamn energy-intensive aluminum mining/smelting is.

Due to insurance costs, our recycling center will not take glass. :( Otherwise we curbside mixed all plastics (with a symbol), paper, metal.

I'd love to recycle more, but the city are total dicks about it and have all these ridiculous rules about it. I just can't be that bothered.

Our recycling center takes all 7 types of plastic, glass (except brown), cans, and any unsoiled paper goods. This week we had 1 thirteen gallon trash bag in the garbage and two recycle bins overflowing on trash day. I'm either going to have to buy another recycle bin ($12) or convert a regular trash can into a recycle container (by putting stickers on it).

I've also begun to get into homesteading and living off the land. Kind of a beginner right now but recycling goes beyond just putting it in a bin for someone else to come take away. There are plenty of uses for perceived "junk" that many people do not realize. You can find some tips here http://www.solavore.com/blog/how-to-start-homesteading but I think it would be awesome if people started to use their creativity and knowledge to recycle in different ways!

I find it hard that you could literally recycle everything. Think about the plastic clothes hangers that I mentioned. They don't even have a recycling symbol on them, so how do I recycle it? My Jawbone bluetooth headset came in a really nice looking clear plastic case. Very pretty, but of course there's no recycling symbol. Dunno what I can do there. There are a lot of different plastics.

What about torn up and worn out clothes? Cotton, silk, polyester, nylon, etc. I've got some Tyvek building wrap that is some kind of hybrid of plastic and synthetic fibers. Gonna have to chuck that out too. :(

Give it to Goodwill. You might think, no one would want to wear this stained shirt, but they turn garments that are too worn for resale into other things, like pillow stuffing.
