That is my exact situation. 1br split with the gf in Manhattan.
EDIT: UES as well.

Awesome man. What cross street are you on? I'm up around 88th.
78th off 1st ave. Are you in a high rise? We looked at a bunch up in the 80s-90s.

$1150. 2 bedroom in Jersey City. nice area, huge kitchen, and a huge living room that we have split up into a computer room and tv room.

Split the rent with a roommate, so it comes out to $575 each.

No, I think there are only 5 floors in the building. Off of First Ave. as well.

Use to pay 1100 for a three bed room apartment in a ghetto area. I've since moved back to help the family as well as save some money to buy a house. This is in the Washington Metro area.

wow some of you pay a bunch in rent!

My sister pay's $540 for a 900sq/ft apartment. it is really nice 2 bedroom 2 bath. with a 2 car garage.

what makes me sick is that my taxes (homeowner) are about what she pays in rent ($4500 now going down to $4000 in the new house)

That's a pretty ignorant statement. Renting is a completely viable option if you don't know if you are going to be in an area for long, or if you aren't sure where exactly you want to finally settle down. It's stupid to purchase a house and then turn around and sell it in less than three years.
