Free Weekends
Free Evenings (after 6pm)
Free lunchtime calling (12-1pm)
50 anytime minutes aside from this.

$30+ tax CANADIAN
that's about $23 USD.

Telus Mobility rocks

Verizon America's Choice (National Plan):
400 peak minutes for $40;
Unlimited N+W;
No charge for domestic long distance (I don't even have long distance on my home phone);
1000 Mobile to Mobile (since my sister and father also use Verizon, this usually conserves about 100 peak minutes per month, leaving my typical peak usage somewhere between 200 and 300).

My $40 plan costs a little less than $45 on the bottom line.

I know I could get more peak minutes on a $40 plan from someone else, but my usage wouldn't change, and I never go over my allowance as it is. Competitors' local and national plans for $30-35 offer too few peak minutes or lack free long distance, so I know $40 is my magic number.

I wouldn't change from Verizon unless I was going to save money. I won't dump my home phone to save money either, because my cell phone number is my private number. I don't give that out to anyone and everyone, because when I'm out, I'm probably busy. If you're my friend, you can have my cell phone number. Otherwise, you can call me at home. (If you're kind enough to leave a message when I'm not home, I'll be a good sport and call you back. 🙂 )

If the AT&T asshats would create a national family plan, i'd be all over it. They have one but it's for their crap GSM system so I have to keep these plans instead.

I'd be interested to see the ACTUAL BILL cost if you made calls within the plan. Nobody sends in a check for $29.95 a month...it's always more.

What is it after taxes, surcharges, fees, etc?

1000 Anytime
Unlimited Night and weekend
50 txt messages
the usual roaming, long distance package.

~$21 a month after taxes. How you may ask? Shop gave me $225 to sign up, and $100 from a bootleg mail in rebate the shop did for me. $39.99 plan + tax = roughly $45 a month.
$45 x 12 = $540 - 325 = $215 + $35 activation = ~$21

Bring your own phone, free sim card from shop. I like my trusty unlocked Nokia 8390 over all new phones with color screens and more junk I wouldn't use anyways. Else you will give up the $225 cash for almost all phones, except the newest of new.

US Cellular

Local plan (I don't travel very often so it's all I need)

1100 anytime minutes
Unlimited nights and weekends (nights dont start until 9pm🙁)
Free long distance

39.99/month

We have two of the above, so altogether we get 2200 anytime minutes and two phones for 80 bucks a month.
It was a better deal with more total minutes to get two of these plans instead of one of the family/shared plans.

No kidding. I'm looking at finally getting a cell phone. It seem like the phones that all the providers offer have so much crap on them. I just want a phone to make calls on. I don't care about things like playing games or listening to MP3's.

400 shared anytime
Unlimited N&W
Unlimited mobile to mobile between the two phones we have on the plan (mine and my parents)

$60/month for it. I pay half and they pay half.

Verizon, btw.
