Good point, I should have said 3 reasons (not 2).

1) ING Direct $50 sign up bonus.
2) Referrals
3) Interest

Supposedly it's back into your checking account. Money that goes in has a hold on it for 10 days or something, but you should be able to get it back in your account in a day or two if you need it.

Hi guys,

I've moved money into and out of my ING account a few times. It is very simple. When you deposit that money isn't available for 7-10 days...( i can't remember). When you want to pull money out into your checking account, it is usually within 3 business days. I think there is a limit on transactions per month though..something like 6 (i'm not sure if that includes deposits, or just withdrawls).

All the transfers are done through their website and it is as easy as putting in the dollar amount, selecting where you want the money to go from two different drop down boxes (to/from your ING account, to/from your checking) and clicking a button.

I'm actually looking in on this as well! Looking for a savings account with good interest rate to start my savings. So far I have money in Wamu and it ain't doing much. So you people suggest to put money in ING Direct? I have roughly $20K. Need advice.

That's crazy. You should be investing that money for a much better return.

Here's your hand holding. Like many others, I have more than that in there. Don't worry. It's FDIC insured. That's all you need to know.

I am opening a Roth this year in addition to my maxed out 401k. I just like to have a pile of cash on hand.

Someday I will get enough to withdraw it in 1's and roll around it. it.

What do you need to do to cover your ass in regards to the FDIC? Just have a statement printed out?

The FDIC should have records. I would have a statement, but your account # should suffice.

How does the referral situation work, for everyone you get to sign up, they'll give you 10 bucks?

What about the 50 dollar signup bonus, are there any stipulations as to how long I need to have an account through them?

You get $10 for each person that signs up through a referral email sent by you. They get $25. You can make up to 25 referrals. The $50 bonus was from a tax software referral about a year ago and more.

The referral bonuses are available for withdrawal after 30 days. Let me know if you have any questions.

I can't possibly have to revoke my Can citizenship to benefit from FDIC insured banks :p

Put your non-emergency money into ING because like someone said, it does take 3 business days to take your funds out of ING. I've been with them for awhile and they're great. I just forget my money is in there and I know I can take the money out if I need to with no hassle (unlike a bank where they always ask why you're taking your money out :|).

No, you don't understand. As a Canadian citizen you have "NO RIGHTS" in the world at all. Bow down before the might of the US and its enlightened powerful population. We rule the world, all others shall do as we see fit.

I have quite a bit of money in there. I miss the days when they offered interest rates well above 4%.

I have about $5k I guess. It serves as somewhat of an emergency fund only, as I keep it only to ensure that I cover my expenses for a month or two. It's cool to see how many of you put away a good amount of money.
