If we are eating, 2 shots right at the beginning of the night. Then, no driving for 3 hours.

Usually none. I caught a DUI. That shit ain't no damn joke.
But if we're not leaving in less than 4-5 hours, maybe one drink on arrival.

I live in a large city so there's realistically 0 reason to ever need to drive. Cabs or train.

I think 1 beer is safe but not more.
I never drive a car at night though so I don't have this problem, I'm within walking distance of the city.

Cabs are overpriced here, and in Europe in general too, but especially here. I heard someone paid 64$ for 5 km at night or something, in a small city.
That's 3 miles in burmese and murrikan units.

I usually go out in the city, and either walk or take public transit. So usually no DD.

On the rare occasions I am DD, I sometimes have 1 beer when we get there if we will be there for more than 4-6 hours, otherwise nothing but water, juice and tea.

Might have a drink immediately at the start of the venue, then switch to pop. By the time it's time to drink it will be at least several hours since my drink. Rather not take chances. It's worse considering a situation like this would involve driving in the dark, possibly on unplowed roads, so it needs that extra bit of attention.

I don't drink

Also idea of hanging around people that drink is not exactly my idea of fun (quite the opposite).

Drunk people (or even buzzed) are by far the most annoying people around. I would rather go to the movies and watch barney than go to a fucking bar/club.

Actually I can't think of a worse place to go to than a bar....

No need for me to ever be a designated driver. Thankfully.

I was always the DDD (designated drunk driver). Always drank hard no matter what. Thats why I don't drink at all! One is too many and 100 isn't enough.

One beer max at the beginning of the night. They lowered the limit a few years ago. At 0.05, you now get a 24-hour license suspension as a "warning".
