I would have to say running a software or media empire. The Gates' & Turners of the world buy & sell sports stars.

If you're going into the tech industry, you could try network engineering..

you're asking REALLY broad questions dude.

you can make anywhere from 25k a year to 6 figure income. (CCIE comes to mind, or if you're just a network genius)..

web designers can make little or a LOT if you're a design genius and you know all the web programming out there.

most monitary rewarding business

Anna Nicole Smith had it with her last husband :Q

(I think she just won the case too)

I would say not professional sports, but rather jobs like ceo or cfo (basically if your job title is in the form C_O where _ is some letter you will make good money.

It used to be that anyone could be a web designer with all those html app to create web pages so easily.

However, now with PHP, the real web designers can now really pull it off better then those who just use those web designing apps.

If you know how to code html, php, and use mysql all together, that's pretty much the best combination there is.

Also doesn't hurt to know javascript, and maybe java.

As for salaries....wouldn't have a clue

If the company uses Microsoft technolgies, then knowing ASP, VB COM+ components, and some dhtml will get you a nice paycheck.

Web designing is not very technical. Your wage depends heavily on your creativity and artistic skill more than anything. It doesn't matter how good you are at computers. If you suck at making appealing page, you won't get much.

Not technical you say?!?!?

I happen to disagree (quite a bit)

No matter how good graphics are, the web site will be crap if you aren't using "technical" skills.

SQL
I'm a web designer but can't make anything look good. Unless size 1 Arial on bgcolor #FFFFFF counts.
SQL
But I was never asked to either. They want business rules, validation, fast and accurate data entry/reporting,
SQL
creative solutions to efficiency problems, integration, preservation of legacy applications with enhancements,
SQL
documentation out the wazoo, job costing, consolidation, scheduling, timeline analysis, payroll accuracy....beyond all this
SQL
you have to build for expandability because as soon as a new site is up the requests come in for additional
SQL
features.

web designer is a tough term to nail down lately.
what you see depends on where you stand.

You couldn't have said it better (I am a web developer BTW)

🙂

Of course graphic talent helps also. I wish I was more of a natural talent with graphic design instead of having to force everything out like a bad bout of constipation.

<< I am an aspiring web designer. I was just wondering how much they make..thanks

web designers are old news.. you need to be a web developer now...

You are correct, graphic talent also helps. I'm not much for graphics though. I work with html, php and mysql and let a real artist worry about the graphics 🙂

I'm more for the technical side of a website (I still can't believe Jerboy said that there was nothing technical about building a website...shows how much he knows..or doesn't know!).

As for the person who was talking about asp made pages, it is true...but it restricts you waaaay too much. You can only build asp pages using Visual Interdev (well, it's the only way
I am aware anyways) on a Microsoft Windows platform. Php/mysql is much more universal.

This brings up the question..what's the difference between a web designer and web developer?

web developer knows html and then some. (php/sql/perl/java/javascript/asp/whatever)

i'd say web design consists of graphics design and general html
