My friend owns 2 sites...
www.rsnplus.com and another one
[L=http://www.geocities.com/rsnation1/index.html]
He is somewhat new to this field, and was recently offered $85 from ticketsnow.com to put a 73 byte add on each of his sites. ($85 for both) Is he getting jipped? Or is this a good deal? I told him to haggle a bit for a higher price. What do you think?

Well, thats the thing, he doesn't get a whole lot. It is steadily increasing, and I think hes on the way to a popular site...but as of now, he doesn't get much. Also, this guy emailing him might just be a rep, and might only be allowed to give a set amount.

If he doesn't get a whole lot of traffic then he's probably getting offered a little under what he could get, not sure though, I'm no expert!

I checked out the guy's site, and some of te cheapest tickets he sells are over $100...ergo, even if my friend's site only attracts him one customer, hes making a profit on top of the price of the ad.

Is he paying your friend monthly or just a one time fee for the rest of the site's existance? haha.

I was telling him he should make something up, like saying he charges $1.50 per byte or something. THis would bring an arguement for $100 or a little more...what she he haggle for?

If i were your friend, I would establish some sort of line of communication with that ad company. If they're offering him $85, have your friend use some of that to buy a legit domain instead of mooching off slow, ad-laden geocities. Then after that, don't bite the hand that feeds. As a sort of respectful move, have your friend humbly accept the initial offer and not go all $100+ demanding, which is very disrespectful and will come back to bite him in the ass. After this, tell them that he would like to not set a firm time-table for this $85 but would like to keep negotiaions open between the site and his so that if and when your guy's site becomes succefful, he can ask for a small increase in capital.

Take it and get a real host. He'll end up saving space anyway, since he'll lose the Geocities bar on the right side of the screen. :)

Alright. I'm the guy that asked for a little help. My site is http://www.rsnplus.com. Recently started but I believe will have very good traffic within a couple of months. So naturally, to start off the fee should be low, but I don't think a whole year at a single rate for a new site is smart at all, because you have no idea what the site traffic is going to look like in 12 months. My preference would be to take a 2 or 3 months at a time.

And Geocities is the worst thing ever. Actually it's funny but pretty much anything Yahoo gets it's hands goes downhill. The recently bought out Konfabulator is another example. But we'll leave that for another day.

I have a hosted site. I'm useing Godaddy. Im not interested in switching. The Geocities site is something I used to practice on. I no longer use and will take that out of the deal. The new site: http://www.rsnplus.com is my current one and and has it's own hosting. Also the design is 100 times better.

Back to the ad part of this whole thing. As I said before I don't want to commit to something for something that long especially when the popularity and site traffic is still in the early stages and has big potential to increase a lot in 12 months. It is my preference to go by 2 or 3 months at time. Any thoughts on this?

it's good you know what you want and aren't a deer in the headlights. talk to them about this. setup a good model with previous month's statistics as faar as site usage and show projections as to where you think the site is going in the comin months with their support. now that they're offering you $x you want to make them see you're worth more. prove to tham that you'll do $85 but for only 3 months and after that, you'll wanna see where your site is and if you deserve a sort of "adjusted compentation based upon referrals." also, remember, this can severly bite you in the ass. if this is a side project and you can afford to lose that $85 like it's nothing, then you really have no problems. on the other hand, if you gamble and your referrals doesn't go up like they expected, you can expect to lose the future money. remember this. the best resort is a line of communication between you and them.

EDIT: your site looks very nice and professional. i think it's got much potential and definitely worth your $85 for 3month contract. just be forceful and convince them that they need you.
