How much do flowers for a wedding cost?

I was estimating 5k, but then everyone told me 10k?? Holy crap. I just want decent roses, not even flowers everywhere. Anyone care to share their experiences with this?

Flowers don't have to be all that important.. depends on your setting. We only spent about $500 on orchids... and our overall expenditure was over $25k.

http://www.theknot.com has a checklist for you and you can determine budget for each piece from there too.

I guess I am lucky that my mom is a florist. Never even thought about what it would cost.

Ever think of going with silk flowers? Will save you a ton, and actually look better (no wilting).

just say "NO" to keeping up with the Joneses and do your own flowers.

Hmm, never thought of that. Maybe if we can find a fancy enough of place, we can not have as many flowers. But can you believe that the bar charges like 8 bucks a drink? Its crazy, why can't we just pay a premium for bottles.

You could clean out half a dozen bank vaults on a wedding if you wanted to. My suggestion is to establish an overall budget as soon as possible, and then do your best to stick to it. You'll end up spending more, but if you don't have a budget planned, you'll end up spending a lot more than you ever thought possible.

Yeah, thats why I'm trying to get a guestimate of how much everything costs. I've been using www.weddingchanel.com for their budgets. It hurts. It really hurts.

Flowers can get expensive FAST!

(large wedding party * expensive bouquests )+ (large guest list *(expensive table decorations + expensive church decorations)) = $$$$$

I think "techniacally" flowers should be 10% of the entire budget, but if you want roses, check out sams.com for tons of wholesale flowers for cheap!
but 10k is expensive thats why i am going to do my own flowers by ordering them via the web.

You know what's funny? Flowers were the thing I expected to give me the worst sticker shock for my wedding, and they ended up being among the cheapest. Now granted, our centerpieces were included in the cost of the reception, our bridal party was not huge, and our tiny church didn't require a ton of flowers, but that rang up at like $500. I was expecting over $1000.

Now the effing photographer, OTOH...those guys know they have you by the balls. I will admit, though, that the one we chose was very good and worth the cost.
