I know they used to be $$$$$ but I'm hoping they've come down in price. The only ones I can find are tiny ones for digital cameras that'll only pring at 6"x4". How much is one that'll print 8"x10"?

I could only find one that would do 8.25 x 11 . . . The Olympus P400.

P400 PROFESSIONAL DYE-SUB PRINTER. 8.25 X 11.7 A4 SIZE 7.7 megapixels,16.7million colors,90 sec. printing speed

This was on Pricewatch.com by doing a search for "dye sublimation."

This puppy is $999.

There are smaller ones for less.

Lunotick: I'm sure you've noticed that current inkjets claim resolutions of 2880x720 or 2400x1200 dpi. Well that's true enough, but each one of these dots can only be one of 4 (or at best 6) different colours.

Dye sublimation typically only prints at 300dpi (somertimes 600dpi) but before the dye (molten wax?) is put on the page it is mixed. This means each one of those 300*300 dots per inch can be any one of 16.7million colours. No dithering needed.

The olympus looks like what I'm after. A little steep though.
