Or the various actors in American Pie? Do they make bank, or is it more of a "This is your big chance, but sorry we can't pay more than a couple of grand. If you don't like it, there is a line outside waiting to do it for free"

Well if you do a good enough job you will get jobs after.

Yeah, Jon Heder did Napoleon Dynamite for something like a few grand, and he wasn't even a co-star. But now he's at least a millionaire.

it probably isnt even six figures, especially if youre talking about a movie like superbad, which was not a big budget production.

The initial pay is probably low, but they probably have a decent stipulation based on sales and residuals to compensate for it ? if the movie hits it big, they get a bigger chunk of change.

This is what happened with Napoleon Dynamite & Jon Heder. Not to mention the fact that he's probably making bank from the licensing of his image on all sorts of products.

I'm sure if they're a member of the SAG there is some kind of scale that must be paid, much like a union

not that much i bet. its not like they knew superbad would be a success. and such unknowns have no bargaining power.

if it's a big name "sidekick" they'll get a smaller % (usually 1%)

non a-list actors usually just a contract amount (1-10mil)

No my statement is true. In the past they may have hoped for a cut...now almost all studios are not even offering A-list's this.

If it's a one off project by some no-name studio, anything is possible.

I work for a major entertainment company in participations and I read the actual contracts. What's your source?
