I have a phobia of deleting things because you never know when you might want to go back and load up that mp3 you havent listened to in years.

yet it was so easy for you to make me delete everything on my computer last year so you could format it incorrectly only to make it break again later on that summer..

Right now I am using maybe 40GB of 200GB. I had 60GB and I only upgraded to the 200GB b/c it was cheap and the 60 was starting to fail intermittently and I didn't want to lose any of my data.

I've got a 60 gig drive for my OS and software and a 200 gig drive for my mp3's / videos / downloads.

60 gig drive is half full and 200 gig drive is over half full.

Just depends on how much is enough for you. :D

Most users: 10 GB is plenty. Think Grandma. Think the secretary down the hall. Think schools that Deep Freeze the image and erase everything on the HD each night.

I personally use about 6 GB at work. That includes dozens of programs, years of data files, and the OS. At home I have about 20 GB used since I have about 20 games installed. I certainly have no need for more than 40 GB anywhere.

But people who create lots of video/pictures need it. People with specialized software with lots of data need it. People with legal/illegal copies of everything in the world need it.

For my lossless FLAC music server and 1200+ CD collection I need about 400 GB of online storage (300 MB per CD) plus OS space. I have 650 GB since I actually use more than one OS install for development, plus I'm still buying CDs.

> Do you really listen to all 10GB of MP3s - delete what you haven't listened to in a year

I buy my music, and quite often will go a year without listening to one specific CD, but it's sweet to have it playable in 10 seconds just by scrolling to the right folder when I am finally in the mood to hear it.

For my desktop box I could get by with perhaps a couple of 80 GB, but have a 120 + 160 since they only cost a little more.

Everthing on my computer is free i.e downloaded , at least when I boot into Redhat....So I consider my self to have the worlds largest storage facility "The internet" . If I delete an item and I want to use it again ..no prob just d/l..

I think the obession has to do with modern conceptions of private property and all the emotional issues that go with "owning items".

I love you guys. :p

"Do you really need more than 20GB to do video editing ?"

YES.

And all my CDs are in my closet. If I want to listen to something, I just pull it up on my computer.
