but if i have a 3870 CF.. how much performance gain I will get if i switch to 4870 CF with my current processor and memory????

It depends on the game you're playing and its Crossfire support. In some games dual 3870s can match or exceed the 4870 (Oblivion is one such game), and in other games the HD4870 destroys the Crossfire 3870s (games with no Xfire support).

Just look at Anandtech's benchmarks.

Well, i would say my 2900xt crossfire was pretty close in performance to yours. A single 4870 is about 10% faster than it was.

So, not very much performance increase
- an X2 would be a solid increase!

3870 CF to 4870 isnt a big deal at all

You can also go to GTX280-OC for $380 or to the 4850x2 for $400 or the 4870x2 for $550
- or 2 x 512MB 4870 CF for $500 .. or .. 2 x 1GB 4870 CF for $600

. . . just so you have plenty of choice

imo AMD's best bang for buck performance upgrade from 3870 CF appears to be 2 x 512MB 4870 CF for $500 - less with the MiR.

i am selling mine to get the 1GB version

You will be $400 poorer and graphics richer

it depends on whether you are satisfied with your current framerates and level of detail in your games
- only you can decide that

You also did not mention at what resolution you game
-you won't see much at 10x7 .. otoh, 19x12 will become fluid with 4870 x 2

Everything runs fine... with around 2AA... never understand how people like those 8x.. or 16x AA and so on... kinda gets too blurry and drive me mad...
