How much did your engagement ring run you?

Well I think that this summer is going to be the time that I will propose and I was wondering how much engagement rings run on average? Im not exactly rich but I can save up a lot of money. Any help would be great

Thanks

2 x your monthly income is the standard I believe.

Edit-There's an engagement ring for every income. The diamond industry has seen to this.

I always think that you'd have to be a raving loonie to spend that much on a ring! I recall having spend 2/3 of what I was making at the time, and only that much because the money was sitting in an account.

I always recommend against borrowing money for something like a ring, because it's a pure luxury. If you must you can upgrade for her and buy her a bigger one when you have the money, years down the road.

I will never spend more than a grand or 2 at MOST on a ring...
I'm thinking $500 should do... I know my GF doesn't care either which makes me so happy.. there's more to life than a stupid ridiculously expensive ring.

there is a ring i want. its around $1500 (cdn). i dont want it for engagement i want it for "I love you"
most of the engagement rings we have looked at that i have liked have been between 500-750 cdn as i like small and simple.

find out what she likes and go from there.

Hey, you're preaching to the choir here. I believe there is no bigger waste of money than jewelry, but he asked.

I used to work for the Gemological Institute of America. I know quite a bit about gemstones.

I agree, expensive jewelery is a waste. Chicks will disagree.
Don't spend any more than $2000. get a smaller stone with better clarity. I can't stand the big ones that look like someone pissed in an ice cube tray and froze it..

i paid 7k plus tax..so almost 8k

i'm broken up now

i gave the wedding ring to my mom and
am selling the engagement ring

oh ya..i bought it when i just turned 22 y/o

But this is the bling bling era and people have no class.

Wow you guys are cheap. I had a connection in the diamond district and still paid a packet for it. Worth every penny, too (rings don't need upgrades every year or two like graphics cards and such 😀).

Free. It was a family heirloom. Same ring that my great grandfather used to propose to my great grandmother. My wife loved that more than she would have some expensive ring.

A line by either 1) diamond manufacturers (as you have stated) or 2) gold digger girls.
I recently co-bought (my fiancee paid for part) an engagement ring for AU$1500 (valued at $1900), and it is of a style that suits HER (it definitely was not the largest rock in the selction, but has a wonderful shape).

Whatever you do, do NOT buy at Mall shops, in my experience they are overpriced, have cr@ppy service, bad after sales service and lower grade diamonds. Shop around.

If she loves you it won't take an expensive diamond to get her to say yes, she would say it if you just asked. Evidently you kiddies don't remember that it was De Beers that started this whole diamond thing with their advertising. Diamonds are just another rock and have no value other than what morons are willing to pay for them. This excludes their industrial uses, of course. 😉

Seems like I paid about $2200 or $2500 for my wife's ring. Of course thats in 1989 dollars. I bought her a larger diamond for it a couple of years ago for Christmas. She had the original made into a necklace.

I am on my 3rd or 4th $40 ring, the previous ones have been lost or stolen.

just paid $5g's for mine. not because i feel that she wants a bigger rock, but because i want to see the shocked look on her face. kinda like buying a bmw 330 instead of a bmw 325. both are very nice, but the other just has more kick heh. besides, i hope it'll become a family heirloom someday, something she can pass down to her son or something.

Yeah im sure if I just asked with a washer or something she would say yes but I want to do something special for her, I plan on taking her somewhere really nice and doing it there.

my thought exactly. Whatever comes out of the quarter machine at the supermarket better make her happy... either that or the ultimate in practical application.... the RingPop
