I'm interested in seeing what kind of money people spend on their primary rig, including monitor, peripherals and sound equipment. It's ok if you don't remember the exact figure(I don't), just ballpark it if you need to. I think my setup was about $2000.

I am working on mine now. It was supposed to have been $1,600.00 but I am going to at least double that with some custom water cooling, pimping it out and upgrading here and there as the mood takes me. I have delusions of grandeur.

For about $2000 USD--but also a lot of time and energy--my main 'rig operates misterhouse and runs my household (I'm not Mr Easton, but I copy all his stuff).

Not really the same thing as the newest SLI GPU setup, but it's mega cool and completely worth it!

I think your link is broken but I just read up on misterhouse. Sounds pretty cool.

Mine main PC is much like the Ship of Theseus. I haven't actually built an all-new rig since I bought an absolute barebones socket 478 Celeron system in 2004 or so, which cost me somewhere around $500.

If we go by the new purchase cost of all the components in and about my primary system now, I'd guess that I've spent around $2000 on it, maybe a shade more.

I'm in the same boat. If I the same math on my rig (what each component cost at time of purchase), I think I come up with $1700 for the computer itself, $500 for the monitor, $100 for the keyboard, and $50 for the mouse.

No, this is a rig...

I spent $74500 on my 'rig' (in 1994; not that one in the photo, though, thank God.)

I've probably got about $1500 into my current desktop, including the new monitor. Only thing left is a 256GB SSD (to replace the 60GB,) so maybe add $200 to that, and it will be done. I actually have an itemized sheet somewhere with the actual total on it (but I hid it so my wife wouldn't find it.)

Does the amount only include what we spent on what's currently in it or the parts its gone through over time?

Currently: around $1100 using the prices I paid for at the time
Over all: something closer to $2500~2800

I was sitting around the $2000 mark, but adding a custom cpu/gpu/nb/sb loop adds another $800 =( but so cool and quiet

I added up the cost of all of the components in my PC at their time of purchase and came up with a figure just shy of $2000. However, my monitor is from 2006, my speakers from 2005, disk drive/watercooling/video card from 2007, keyboard from 2008, SSD and sound card from 2009, mouse from 2010, and CPU/mobo/RAM from 2012.

I typically spend $2-500 every few years to keep my PC current.
