How much cheese on a grilled cheese?

I just made a grilled cheese and stole a slice of cheese from my roommates. I was shocked to learn that they usually construct their grilled cheese with at least two slices of cheese.

Also, they have enlightened me to the laziest grilled cheese ever. Toast two pieces of bread, place cheese, nuke.

i usually just use one, but i wont hate you for using 2. if i happen to use cheddar or something instead i lay it on thick so whatever dude

thickish slice of real cheese, not that processed cheese like substance that cones individually packed.

"Processed cheese like substance that cones individually packed" makes better grilled cheese sandwiches than "real" cheese. Toasting the bread and then nuking the sandwich is an abomination. Grill the thing.

I voted 3. Two half-overlapped, and then halve the third and put it on the side so the overall thickness of the cheese is 2 slices (this is for a larger slice of bread).
For smaller slices of bread, two slices. Oh the cheesy goodness.

Enough to fill the bread but not enough for any to ooze outside.

Also use somewhat thin slices to ensure prompt melting.

Government cheese makes some of the best grilled cheeses ever, I know some store somewhere has to sell the same shit, I should track it down. 2 slices if you're using small regular Wonder type bread. 3-4 if you're using big Sourdough.

also NO NUKING! fry in a pan, with real butter, add some garlic to the butter if you wish. Lightly coating the outside of the bread with butter pre frying makes it taste better, and oddly enough using Mayonnaise
instead of butter to lightly coat the bread adds a lot to the flavor of the sandwich. If you don't have Government cheese or something similar. American + Munster makes for a killer grilled cheese. Cheddar and most other cheeses that don't melt well make for a crappy Grilled Cheese.

My Italian buddy makes an insanely good grilled cheese. Butter on the outside, a light coat of dijon mustard on the inside, one slice cheddar, covered with chopped Gouda. He fries both sides, then puts a glass pan lid on to let it steam for a few minutes to get the cheese oozing. It's pretty much amazing.

How I make grilled cheese:

1) Warm griddle on stove
2) Heat 2 slices of whole wheat bread on griddle for a minute
3) Flip bread, add 3-4 slices American cheese and place the warmed side of the other slice face down on the cheese.
4) Slowly brown both sides of the sandwich and allow the cheese to melt.
5) Enjoy.

3a) Add bacon slices (and maybe tomato) for extra deliciousness.

I voted 3, but I usually do two sandwiches with 2 slices each (or equivalent there of) and then fix up some tomato soup to dip it in. Of course this is using cheap white bread. If I ever have some really good bread I'll do one sandwich (which is usually significantly bigger) with more cheese, different kinds of good cheese if available.

I use shredded cheddar for mine.

Most of the slices you get are to processed and greasy for me and the amount I would say would be about 3/4 of a slice.

Absolutely. I generally use Cracker Barrel as it comes in easy to cut blocks. I slice it about 3mm thick, and cover the bread(rye). It then gets fried in olive oil. I used to use butter, but my daughter prefers the olive oil.

That is like asking how much bacon.
The answer is as much as humanly possible.
Plus one.

Grilled cheese sandwich. Replace bread with double stacked bacon weave. Report back results.
