You'd be surprised how much someone will drop their asking price when their eyes are full of $100 bills, just sitting there right in front of them. Doesn't always work, but it's how we got our "new" boat for under $4K when the asking price was $6500.
You should be ashamed. Taking advantage of a poor S. Carolinian by flashing your $$.

j/k....$$ talks, B.S. walks.

How much was in the house again? :sneaky:

I'm in a cash business so I could put my hands on a few thousand if the banks were closed.

probaly have a 200-500, you never know when your going to need cash. What if the machines are down, then you can't get shit at the stores. Always have cash incase shit happens.

~$30 in quarters (for laundry) plus whatever is in the change jar. I usually keep a twenty in my wallet for random stuff, but 90% of my transactions these days are done with cards.

I keep about $50 hidden on my bookcase... I could see an emergency wherein my wallet gets stolen and I have to take a cab home (and wouldn't have access to an ATM/credit card, since my wallet was just stolen)

Guess im the odd ball here. I keep a healthy amount as emergency money. Nothing super crazy but enough to be able to pay for a decent sized unexpected event. Bought a few things off craigslist or other forums and met with cash. So much easier than having to run to the bank to make a withdrawal when it usually ends up being after the banks are closed.

But i have a good safe to store it in. Without the safe id keep much less at home

not sure where you live, but around here we have these things called ATM's where you can get money out without the need for a bank to be open.

srsly, they are amazing! there is usually one on every corner too, so they are easy to find!

I keep around $2k in my house for emergency funds. Never know when you're a victim of IDtheft. Last time I had to get all my bank accounts changed and my ATM cards redone. For a good while there all I had was cash on hand.

never keep much cash around and never need to either. i had my debit card defrauded once, took a couple days to sort out, but I also did not require much money during that time either. Always have various sources of money and you will be fine. Keep multiple debit/credit cards issued from different places and don't always keep all of them in the same place, and you're fine.

It's in the right middle drawer of my desk, with my kids' birth certificates. I figure that no self-respecting burglar will bother robbing me for just a bunch of 20's.

Change and whatever happens to be in my walled for whatever reason. I can't buy anything at home, so there's no reason to have money there.

I have ~$1,500 in small bills hidden at home in the case of natural disaster that makes ATM's unusable.

In case of identity theft you should have at least 2 months of cash in a secure place.

Any hurricane Sandy victims posting here? Curious if they had any $$ on hand or not, how well they fared with no power.

Bout a buck fitty.

Naw, I have probably anywhere between $5 and ~$60 in my wallet at all times, plus my change jar which right now has probably about $100 or so in it.

I have around $0 in bills and maybe $5 worth of coins at the house usually.
Maybe a couple times per week I leave the fiance $50 or $100 for running errands/shopping... but, the money doesn't last very long, lol.

Sure are, until a storm knocks out power and everything is cash only because nothing electric works.

I know, doesn't happen every day. True. But the habit of keeping a small sum of cash around certainly helps out sometimes.

And you do know you're making the same assumption, with the comment of "one on every corner", that everyone lives in a good sized city. Hint: they don't.
