There are 12 people going, 6 adults and 6 children.

We will have over 120,000 between the 12 of us, to wire transfer 120,000 to vietnam is very difficult.

You wanna transport $120,000 in cash over international waters.

Er.... ARE YOU MAD?

This isn't perperson, it is a large group, and the money is for Family who needs it.

all that money is going to set off the metal detectors.

pfft, they will make you put your coats through the xray machine and they will see you hiding money (thick stack of paper with a metallic strip). Kiss freedom goodbye.

It entirely depends on if the wheels of the plane are frictionless or not. If not, the plane's not even going to take off, which makes this all moot.

Why exactly is it illegal to carry large sums of money on a plane? Sure, it could be drug related... so could Ziploc baggies. Do we limit the purchase and transport of them?

It is going to be in $100 bills, and it will be sewn into our pants. So you can't see it.

Well it varies by airport, sometimes by flight & date. What airport are you leaving from? Also what is the flight number and when are you leaving? Someone here should be able to look it up.

Why not just buy a private jet? Then you don't have to worry about delcaring anything except "I'm the man. I own a private jet and used it to transport $120,000 to my family in Vietnam."

That doesn't matter. Customs and immigration in many countries take the family as a unit when asking about cash. (This is why you only fill one customs form per FAMILY when entering the US).

Plus, if one person gets robbed, or worse, searched at an airport, don't you think that'll put the rest of the family under a microscope?

You say you have six children in your party. Over a long trip halfway across the world, what if one of them falls sick or simply gets cranky and starts pulling money out of his pockets?

Either you're making this stuff up, or you're just plain stupid.

It's not illegal to carry them, but after a certain amount you must report it to Customs for tax purposes.

This isn't little children, they are 14-17 years old. Hardly little.

No I am not making this up, we actually did this a while back, and plan to do it again. but we did it before 911.

I really sincerely hope that you're not actually seriously wondering if this is real or not. This is so insanely stupid it can't be anything but fake.

This isn't fake. My family is already decided on doing this, I was just wondering what are the actual rules, not that we plan to follow them.

Take a picture of the money. With a sign in front of it saying "For my family" Black out the serial #s if you're paranoid. You are so full of crap it's bending your teeth forward.

You have to report anything over $10,000 it doesn't matter if there is 1 or 20 people carrying it, if you are traveling together you have to add it up and declare what you are transporting. There is a maximum penalty of 10yrs/$500,000 fine.

More Information

Truthfully there is probably little chance you will be inspected leaving the country, but I haven't traveled internationally since 9/11, so you may be pushing it. They can train dogs to sniff out currency.

10 years does sound nice....

If you, or anyone else in your congregation, had the wherewithal to even legally obtain $120,000 you would not be asking a bunch of people on a public internet forum how to transport it. Furthermore, you damn sure would not be considering legal advice as to how much cash a person can carry out of the country without risking detainment, arrest or possible seizure.

On top of that, I don't like to believe that a person capable of legally obtaining that amount of cash would be ignorant enough to post their intentions in an extremely public place.

Actually, far as I can tell there isn't any tax involved (though I might be wrong on that). The whole reason behind this law is to combat money laundering.
