How is this any better than a unlocked c3d gto? Let me get this straight: it costs more, can't unlock, and can't reach the same clocks, and is supposed to be BETTER? My gto gets ~6800 in 3dmark05, on stock cooling I might add, so good luck reaching that on a GS.

The funny thing about the new/improved GS is that, aside from 110nm, its specs are awefully similar to the much-lambasted X800 Pro (which really wasn't that different from a 6800GT in performance, although many people claimed otherwise). Especially since many/most X800Pro's were o/c monsters: you either got a VIVO one that would unlock the extra 4 pipes and or a non vivo that would still overclock to around 525+/1100+ .

Would anyone care to confirm whether it was possible to unlock those cards in PCI-E? I read a couple comments in a thread, the one at TechPowerup I think, where people were saying that you could only unlock those cards if they were AGP but that it failed for PCI-E.
Probably referring to the AGP and PCIe 6800 scenario. AGP 6800 had the nv40 core and unlocked where as the PCIe 6800 had an nv41 core which didnt unlock.

6800GS has nv42 and doesnt unlock.

That's what I'm trying to understand. I am surprised AATech would not even note the C3d GTO's ability to unlock, labeling the GS as the far better "value".

3dmark of 6364!!

Is it me or this 12pipe card is faster than the 16 pipe GT?

as fbrdphreak mentioned....its the chip thats used in the mobile 6800 parts. i think they fettled the efficiency abit and improved some other odds n ends whilst moving down a peg in the fab size.

so i think clock for clock, pipe for pipe, that the GS is faster due to improved efficiency.

I can get this (I have a personal $10 off coupon) for $196 including shipping from Mwave.com. Just can't decide on this versus that Connect3D x800gto (provided I'm in the majority that unlocks it). I just don't like rebates.
