Want great o/c ram on a 250 dollar budget. I was thinkin about OCZ Platinum, or some people have recomended G. Skill Hz or something. Any links to your favorite DDR500 ram? Should I choose ddr400? Is it worth it? I think so, but what do you think?

Usually higher speed wins over tighter latencies, especially gamingwise, but if I were you I wouldn't bother upgrading your memory at all.

I know that's not the advice you asked for, but take that money and turn that single 7800gt into SLI, and boy I think you'll be happier. I just saw a link for a 7800gt for $269 on newegg so look around.

If gaming is not your concern, then buying from any known name(ocz, corsair) will get you good results, just make sure to shop around, look, and find the best deal :).

nonono... hah. My memory rite now is 2 different brands of value pc3200. It is pure crap. I have an opteron 165 and my memory wont even allow me to overclock it to 2.17 stably. Plus ill sell my memory and ill only spend about 100 bucks.

Run the memory on a divider.

Check out Zebo's thread (do a search for it) about Memory Price/Performance.

It REALLY isn't worth buying the hyper-expensive/performance memory.

Spend the money on buying another graphics card, or watercooling.

The memory is already on 333. The mobo automatically makes it run at that. 4x512 sucks.

I am going to upgrade... I bought my opteron purely for the fact that i could o/c it to fx-57/60 speeds. That is what im going to do. Im happy with my one 7800 gt right now. I can get another later, but i have slight system instability with this memory. I hate it. Heres a question though. I think I want OCZ platinum memory. The ddr400 has latency of 2 and the ddr500 has latency of 3. I know that 2 is better than 3, but will it inhibit o/c performance if i go with the ddr500 with the 3? Which is better for what i want to do?

I think you should just buy a 2gb dual channel kit of value memory and sell your old stuff. Out of those, I'd get the DDR500 I guess though.

The Cas latency won't hurt your overclock either way as long as the memory can hit the speeds you clock it to. That being said cas2 will get better scores in benchmarks by a slight margin.

DDR500 is guaranteed 250 mhz ram. Is that enough to get your processor where you want it? If not, then look for any ram that's been shown to have 250mhz+ OC capabilities, regardless of its factory rating.

Most of the higher end OCZ memories are known to overclock well. I'm not sure which one this set is, but I'd wager it would go past it's rated speed pretty easily. I could be wrong though, but either way you could always use a divider if your mobo supports it.

Does not make as big of a difference using AMD procs, it does but just not that much compared to the Pentium 4.

I dont see why you would pick DDR400 over DDR500 any way.

Bit pricey, but its a 600 watt and I think thats a good brand. Any suggestions on a GOOD psu for less than that?

Antec has a many PSUs for about $100 or less on newegg that are SLI certified (many 500w+). They're a very good brand in my experience. Enermax is also very good especially the noisetaker series. Other brands like OCZ are a bit more expsnsive, but some people I know would recommend them highly.

A Stable, reliable PSU will definately help if you overclock.

Fortrons are good units that typically have good prices. I think you'd be quite happy with the one you posted.

When you see "Ultra" in a product name... RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!!! The Antec is a much better (and safer) way to go.
