How much better is an older SB Live Platium than new onboard audio.

I have a SB live Platinum, I belive the first one they came out with, its currently in my old computer and was thinking of using it in my new PC minus the front connections that I won't use. How much better would this be compared to onboard. Will XP have decent drivers for the SB card because I had using creatives stuff because you can't just get the driver they add all sorts of crap in with it. Also about how much Wattage does a SB consume.

heh, i wanted an answer to this question too. i have the first soudblaster live! full version they ever made. my friend who builds comps for ppl says the integrated is just as good as that card these days in terms of sound quality. they wont have all the bells and whistles that come with the whole live plat package tho.

another question would be is how different is the soundq uality between a new sb audigy plat and the new integrated sound on the nforce mobos.

Ya I really don't crank up games anymore. Actually I just plan to get some 2.1 speakers when I get new ones, my current 4.1's do no good because I can't position them behind me.

you can winrar the exe file for creative audigy drivers and manually install them on the sblive. the sound quality is about as good as an audigy 1 with this driver hack.

I have a motherboard with an nVidia2 MCP and i honestly find that sounds better than this SB Live that i got for free. I find that the Live has a hiss to it which the MCP didn't have. I just havn't gotten around to taking out the Live. hehe
