How much better are the newer thinkpads to the t410s

may give this t410s to family in the philippines and upgrade, only if it's worth it. This won't be for another 3-4 months

As someone who has had almost every thinkpad for the last 8 years. The newer ones are usually the low voltage weak cpu, hard to upgrade, awful keyboards/touchpads. The t410s has a small battery, non standard hard drive and only 8gb ram. If you go up to even the t420 you get 16gb ram max, msata/regular 2.5/and ultrabay. Sandy Bridge is a huge jump in performance and cooling, and battery consumption, plus you can get 9 cell extended battery.

They can be had for very cheap. I prefer the t420 to the t440 or t440s and the performance is actually better on the t420 imo, coupled with a superior keyboard/trackpoint, upgradeablity. There are even 1080p mods and quad core cpu mods you can do.

I would probably consider the t460p, although it is a bit more performance oriented than the s versions (quad core hq cpus).

just an update with the thinkpad t410s; this model has/had issues with BIOS splash screen locks, BIOS glitches and backdoor bot access to the BIOS from OS environments.
the t400s and the t420s are the sweet spot for low budget-used thinkpads.

the t410s was great, but was plagued with tons of misses/issues that the t420s better addressed and picked up newer upgrades and has sleeker wide-screen chassis design.

thanks, may shoot for a t440 or t440s at some point

I have a T440p as my main machine now (bought a crisp unit from ebay). Keyboard aside, my T420s is now a backup thanks primarily to the 1080 IPS I put into the T440p. The feel of the keyboard is good but the layout no es bueno.
