How much bandwidth does VNC take?

I'm using VNC ( virtual network computing) to control my computer at home from work. I'm concerned that it might be sucking too much bandwidth on the network. Is it ok that i leave VNC on for a while?

You can leave it on no problem. Don't leave any clients connected though. Your machine will totally drag if a client is left connected. Even if you're sitting at the machine, you will feel the slow down.

I used VNC until I found Remote Administrator...they have a 30 day trial version that you can check out.

HERE Which has a speed comparison with VNC...

It's definitely worth checking out.

remote admnistrator is fast...but vnc is the only software that will allow control thru a simple java enabled browser...go w/ something faster if u dont need that type of access

i have vnc on my home system and it is quite a bandwidth hog. even on my dsl line (328/128) it takes several seconds before things wil respond.

i use it over my cable connection and it works just fine...no lags and quite responsive. I'm using TightVNC tunneled through SSH with compression turned on.

I agree, I like Remote Admin better, but I sure did like connecting to VNC through my browser too
