I'm getting back $1200 (actually it came in today). I don't know how I managed that, though. I had six months of unemployment last year. I really need to re-examine how my withholding is set up.

I havent checked what I got back in taxes for state. But it seems that every year the money I get back is getting lower and lower. Once I actually got 3500 back.

$7324.

Guess I win.

My accountant says there are two kinds of people in America...those who pay taxes, and those who use good CPA's.

Are you sure? How did you manage that?

All relative dude.
Depends on how much you make, how much you have withheld, and certain other options you may have based on your particular situation.
A good CPA can make a BIG difference if you have a more complex financial situation, to be sure.

Still..."aggressive" tax accounting is MUCH different from "reckless" tax accounting.
My firm gets new clients all the time who have been devastated by numbskull CPAs who put them in very precarious financial/liability situations with one cockamamie scheme or another.

BTW: Your accountant forgot to mention the third class of people.
BTW2: That would be "those who are now in prison due to shady accounting"

I kinda said the same thing to him.

He smiled and laughed.

(BTW, I made over 75k last year, and had a LOT of deductions due to the fact I own my business).

DING DING DING!!!

IMHO EVERY business owner, large or small, should use a good, trusted CPA to help maximize their financial situation.
